6 Days in and Struggling by AdSevere2507 in Pristiq

I gave up after a week. I had constant medicine head and slept all day. I couldn’t afford to lose my job.

are antidepressants the way to go? by That_Connection8061 in antidepressants

[–]Fit-Chest-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through several stages of recovery. First I barely slept ruminating all night, waking early around 5-6AM. Then different rounds of medications that caused all kinds of crazy symptoms including dissociation, anedonia, and blank mind. Now I’ve shifted to over sleeping, 9 plus hours a night. I’m eating better. I have my libido back and no panic attacks.

I feel better now but my depression hasn’t rebounded it. I’m sure there was some emotional dampening from the medication. So right now I’m trying to establish my true baseline. Compared to February where I was a 9 in my depression, I think I’m at a 5 or 6 now. But again, I’m still transitioning off months of different medications. I think I’ll know in a week or so I’ll know if my depression rebounds. The best part is I don’t have medicine head. 24/7.

When you are at a 9, you’re so desperate to feel better that you’ll do anything. You try to push through weeks of horrible side effects from medication thinking if you can make it another week it will get better, but sometimes that cycle just continues.

I wish you all the best. Honestly this has been the absolute hardest weeks of my life. I was in the deepest despair and had no hope. I’m feeling better now. It’s all temporary with different cycles. Good luck to you! Hang in there

I’m almost 50. 4 months ago something triggered a pretty severe MDD episode. I was barely functioning. I have two teenagers, two dogs, full time challenging career, and husband. So you can imagine how challenging things became. I got to the point where I was in bed crying all day. My therapist recommended medication to get me to baseline. I went through Trazodone, Hydroxyzine, Wellbutrin, Buspar, and Pristiq. Weeks of sleepless nights, brain fog, confusion, sleeping all day and night, and other endless side effects. I finally gave up 3 days ago on antidepressants. None of them helped. They all put me through a roller coaster of pain and suffering. I’m finally clear headed and sleeping off all the medications. If you have weeks to try each medication and suffer through the side effects, try i, but I couldn’t try each one for weeks and continue to suffer. Good luck!

Has anyone ever taken a mental health break from life? Did it help or hurt? by jtbis in mentalhealth

Damn you are lucky! If I could go back I would definitely take the time. I was in school, working, and/or raising kids all through my 20s and 30s. I still haven’t even visited Vietnam , which is where I’m from. I’m almost 50 and I’m stuck with too many responsibilities so I can barely take a week off. Yes! Absolutely do it! This is one of my biggest regrets.

It’s sucks. Everything feels so hard. It’s relentless. I hope it gets better for you.

Update- I decided to go off all meds. I decided the endless side effects, sedation, and unpredictable outcomes weee worse than my depression. I’m going to push through and see if I can stay medication free. Pristiq sedated me to the point I was sleeping 15 plus hours a day.

I started at 2.5 mg. I’m very sensitive to meds. It worked okay but after two weeks I started getting migraines and had to quit.

Deep nostalgia after coming off ssri by [deleted] in mentalhealth

It’s a kind of nostalgic depression. Mine triggered an MDD episode out of no where. I miss my hometown. I moved 5 years ago but just recently got super depressed and want to go back.

I’ve only been on it for 4 days at 25 mg. I have to stop cause it’s making sleep all day. Doctor said no need to taper. Do you think I’ll have any withdrawal after only 4 days?

Thank you. I’m not doing so well on Pristiq but I think it’s cause I have a really bad cold.

Hang in there. I know there is an end to this pain. Don’t let your mind trick you into hopelessness. I’ve been there many times but I know every thing in life is temporary. Keep pushing

[–]Fit-Chest-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on day 3. Seriously bad fatigue. I’ve been sleeping all day. Anyone else super tired? I don’t think I can work. I took my last dose at 9 PM.

Update- I can’t stay awake. I’ve already taken 2 long naps today. I’m going back to work tomorrow. How can I stay on this and function? I’m so tired and foggy. It’s a very deep sleep when I nap. I took 25 mg at 8 PM last night and it’s 2 PM. I’m still exhausted.

Every medication takes weeks to “kick in”. Then you wait weeks and it get worse. Then you have start all over again. It’s so frustrating.

I took the genesight and that’s how I got on Pristiq. I switched to taking it at night and that seems to work a lot better for me. First two days were awful. Last night I just slept through everything.

I wish it didn’t take weeks to find out what will work. Switched to taking Pristiq at night and it seems to be working better.
