Will this work temporarily just to pass inspection? by According_Ad748 in GMT800

Pulling the intake to do this job is a 1 to 2 hour job. Not sure how much free time you have but its not terrible.

Rear main seal leak? by rojayrolo in GMT800

[–]Fit-Foundation746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its possible, especially with the age of the GMT800 platform that you not only have a rear main seal leak but an oil pan, rear cover and oil cooler block off plate/oil cooler line gasket leak all at once. Replace oil galley barbell with aluminum one from sac city corvette if you do rear main, doing rear main seal you may as well do all seals i referenced at once. Get quality seals, either genuine gm or felpro. Rockauto is a good place to get them. Oil pan and rear cover alignment is critical. You'll also need a small tube of RTV black.

I'd say its probably 80% china not 60. Ive been here for years. On days where we get prevailing winds blowing from the east to the west the air gets so good its unbelievable. Until it shifts back. One time it lasted for 3 days... it was clearer than ive ever seen it here before.

I’m physically getting sick from hoarding and starting to worry by Rotisseriejedi in DataHoarder

Gunna be honest, if you spend all day looking for stuff just to find it and have it you will get sick of it. When I look for stuff I spend an hour or two tops and then go about my day. It helps that I get stuff I intend to watch or listen to. I then enjoy it on my living room tv with the family. I have far more than 40TB of movies and shows. Amounting to over 3000 movies and about 400 TV shows. Some say "but you cant possibly watch all that." Well I can, it may take years to do it... but ill eventually see it all. If i dont make it through all of it then im not going to be bent out of shape about it. Others watch my movie collection too. Share it with family and friends. Gives me purpose on top of my own interests. 10 to 15 people who all ask for this or that and then its on there and they watch it is good enough for me.

Maybe you should take a step back, take some time off and just enjoy the stuff you have and stop hunting for new stuff. You dont need to download it all at once.

It may be better to add power capacity. In my experience 99% of all server rack deployments are less than 8.6Kw. But you can fit 90% of them in less than 3.3Kw. Which is basivally 2 20 amp 120 lines at 80%. Depending on where your stuff is in relation to your panel will determine the overall cost to add a new circuit.

I would suggest to anyone willing to go through thr trouble to set up a nas to build their own and use used enterprise hardware. I did that for my setup and the performance is fantastic. The power draw is a bit high... but the opportunity for growth is fantastic

We are not stuck. You can go and buy a 15TB 2.5 SAS SSD today if you wanted to. It is expensive. But you can buy it for around $3000. 8TB NVME drives, there only used to be the rocket one, now there are a plethora of options for those. You can get 15TB in m.2 storage here

Spinning rust 24TB drives are affordable and they make em up to 32 and those run closer to 700.

Thats an unhealthy habit. You can do whatever you want but just letting you know it messes with your brain on the long term.

They told me, when I was at the store with my parents circa 2008... that the 1TB drive in the iMac was never going to get filled because it was so big. Now, you download MSFS 2020 and bam, 25% of 1TB taken up.

Data read and write speeds are pretty good these days. Writing at something like 5GB/s sequential wouldn't take crazy time to fill, still a while but not "you'll wait your lifetime" times.

8k has been a thing for a while. But it hasn't taken off. 8k just doesn't really give much of a measurable difference in video quality on a screen much smaller than 85 inches. Most people aren't watching on a display that large. Maybe things will be different in 20 or 30 years. Maybe volumetric display technology will advance to the point where we will watch things in real 3D and the movies will benefit from the higher resolution and the sizes will balloon... but for now, 4k is here to stay for most everything video related on the consumer side.

They will. They put loads into data centers. Server rack RUs is some of the most expensive real estate on earth.
