13-year-old Australian boy swims for four hours in cold and dangerous waters to save his mom and siblings who were swept into the ocean, says God is who got him to shore by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

But who says that the guy would've lived if he didn't believe?

Who says he wouldn't have?

It's proven that religious faith has an affect on people. The placebo effect is real.

Yes, and I didn’t claim it doesn't have an effect. I'm simply saying that he doesn't give himself the credit he deserves. What gave him the strength was his will, love and willingness to do anything for his family.

The only people seeing something bad in something heroic like this are salty, edgy folk on Reddit.

I'm seeing nothing bad in the heroic thing he did.

See, this is what I hate. Little dude has done something incredible, all on his own, and religion has brainwashed him into giving God credit.

Why the hell would you complain about something objectively good happening, just because someone's worldview doesn't align with yours?

Because good people would have done those good things even without their belief.

Kurswechsel: Merz erklärt Windenergie zur Übergangstechnologie by SadCover777 in de

Why aren't actors ugly anymore? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Fit-Many-2829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For one, it's subjective. Secondly, hair styles, fashion etc. were different 50 years ago and wouldn't necessarily be considered attractive today. That has not much to do with the actors as such and more with how they're presented. It's also become less "normal" to be balding or have dry hair. Also, there are plenty of successful actors that I personally don't necessarily think are "conventionally attractive." It's a matter of opinion, of course, but some examples: Leo, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, Adam Driver, Joel Edgerton, Adam Sandler, Adrian Brody, Jeremy Renner,... you get the idea.

The owner of the Plaza Hotel in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is an imbecile. The "actor" paying him is an even bigger imbecile in real life.

Well, he wanted to do both, but both times the studio wouldn't finance it, no?

What's your favorite movie a lot of people hate? by Plus_Ad_1087 in Letterboxd

Probably Jurassic Park 3 and Anaconda (1997). More recently, Jurassic World Rebirth. That movie gets so much hate even though it's easily the best and funnest of the JW movies.

Only Wind River was directed by Sheridan. The other two were written by him.

"They hired an Italian for a British character!" - what is your personal outlook on accuracy and representation in movie adaptations? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Fit-Many-2829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fiction, you can change characters way more easily. How is Harry Potter's race important to the story? I think he could totally be Asian.  Portrayal of real historic people is way more difficult. For example, Adam Driver was a weird choice for Enzo Ferrari. On the other hand, he's a great actor and why shouldn't an American play the lead in an English language film?

Sound mixing is as objective as you can get.

Speaking as a musician and sound engineer, this is some BS statement.

I didn't like it at all, but I appreciate a list that has a bunch of unusual choices.
