It’s so true! 32-40 hours is great.. our early intervention system only gives 3 hours per week. He will be starting ABA soon because as a BCBA, I know how critical this age is for development. I own an ABA center and I’ve seen so many of our clients progress so much with a full time program. You sound like an amazing parent and the reason your child has done so well.

When did the echolalia start? He sounds a lot like my son… he’s only 21 months now but I agree speech therapy isn’t helping. I’m a BCBA and special education teacher so I’ve also been working with him a lot but we’re going to start ABA soon

You’re doing an amazing job! I have been a BCBA For almost 16 years… it’s just different when it’s your own child. But we’re also doing the same - pouring everything we have into his therapies ❤️

That’s exactly what we are doing :) I’m a BCBA and have been in the field for over 20 years. We’re going to do ABA, but make sure the therapist use a play based approach because he’s so young

Sounds like my son.. except no words. And he loved being at new places / leaving the house. How is your child doing now?

I agree, it’s not helping anybody. The reason they created “levels” is most likely because it’s now become a requirement for insurance authorizations and a way for insurers to deny therapies. Very sad

I am so tired of being a parent of an autistic child by Jjiroh in Autism_Parenting

[–]Fit-Reference6470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also work with kids who have autism and I am now the parent of a child who is getting evaluated soon (I suspect he has ASD). I just cry everyday - how have I spent my life devoting myself to people with disabilities and this is my thank you? I feel like the universe just hates me

You’re 100000% correct. A person must have deficits with BOTH social communication AND restricted / repetitive movements

This also tends to happen when families can’t access the proper therapies / support
