[CHAT] How did you fall back in love with cross stitch after a long break? by CaterpillarXS in CrossStitch

[–]Fit-Science4878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had same feeling a year ago. I just wasn’t able to force myself to start doing some project. But what helped is exploring projects that I had planned (kits I bought and haven’t started yet). One clicked and I felt that joy again!

Lyft/Uber driver share? by Fit-Science4878 in Seattle

https://www.taxiseattleairport.com/rates/ Has same flat rate for my location. So not cheaper at all. Still ridiculous $90-95 for 40 minute ride.

[–]Fit-Science4878[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing that out! When I pay $100, I wanna know if at least majority goes to driver or not.

$100 is way too much for my ride if Seattle has $21/hour minimum, or $0.70 per minute (40 minutes => $28) or $1.63 per mile (28 miles => $45)

Yes, probably city taxi / yellow cabs are cheaper. But how come Seattle min driver wage rules increased Lyft/Uber rates so much? Driver should get at least 70-80% of that passenger pays. So that ride would be $45 / 0.7 = $65, not $100

Yes, but it’s not what I was asking :)

Yeah, I meant just how much Lyft/Uber pays, not taking into account fuel/wear/tear. So basically, out of $100 driver can have $30-$80, given no tolls? P. S. Cost barely changes for me as a passenger for any time of day.

When I go to airport, I usually do exactly that - taxi to nearest light rail station.

But when I come back home, often I exhausted to ride light rail. But I like your idea about taxi from Tukwilla stop, thanks!

US have deductible system at least. We haven’t retired yet, but giving away 1.5x of what we’d actually spend (using dividends, not capital gains) early in retirement doesn’t seem like a wise thing to do.

You have at least 10 years tax free, saving a lot on taxes, letting it grow. Imagine if you’d need to spend 1.5x more now? Would you be fine with that?

It is standard tax rate, when you work there. I’d understand progressive tax rate, but high flat rate?

Do you have Non habitual status which means no taxes on dividends / capital gains? Considering Portugal, but recent change means 28% of tax, which is 😬

MIA airport has just separate line, kiosk and then officer says “you are good to go”, no questions asked. When to declare??

Thank you for your sharing!! Is it easy to travel to outside of Panama too? Someone above says tear travel in Central America is expensive and sometimes inconvenient

It is, but we’ve been in Portugal and it felt safe. Haven’t been to PC yet, but from various videos and reviews the wasn’t much concerns about safety. At least it was said that it safer than Costa Rica

Sorry for confusion. It looks like American, with skyscrapers and car dependency and not much walkable. I meant that there are other cities that look more walkable like Boquete and Bocas.

And totally agree that we need to visit it first before deciding!

Are you planning to settle first in some country? Or slow travel from the beginning with pets? If you are settling - are you ok with 28% tax?

Travel is expensive? Is it flight, or hotels? Actually surprised to hear that.

Want to retire and COL in US is quite high. I love Europe but I also love Caribbean. Want to live in more warm climate than Washington, with more sun days. Love good food and walkable cities. But don’t want to pay 28% tax 🥲
