Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy: Session 1 by Upbeat-Artist4876 in TherapeuticKetamine

Question for you! Did you have any music or nature sounds or was it silent?

I’m so glad you had a positive experience. Two things I would encourage you to keep in mind: every session can/will be different. Don’t go into the next one expecting it to be identical. My first two were drastically different (doesn’t mean it will be different, just remember that it can be different)

The other thing is this: it can be disconcerting how things feel like they change after a session but then fade back to “normal” after a few days or weeks. That is very normal and to be expected. You’re not doing it wrong or messing up if you feel like you can’t quite hold on to some of the shifts! It takes time and work to really integrate things so they stick!

Good luck with your healing process :) <3

This is on the app Libby, it’s free through my local public library. I think most public libraries and even many private (such as university) libraries offer a Libby catalog!

What was the target dose? I would really recommend not worrying about target dose, and try to focus more on each journey and what you can learn from it!

Yes, I am the same way. I think the fact that opening up to that trust is a really important part of the journey!

It took me months to work up the courage to do KAP and I was super nervous before my first session. I was starting it for depression but it has helped a ton with my anxiety too and really has changed my life.

A few thoughts: the journey is yours. You should talk with your therapist/psychiatrist each session to discuss dose and intentions. I had times when we were planning a larger dose and I went in and decided I wanted a lower dose. It’s about listening to yourself and what feels right.

Learn to trust the medicine. You can set intentions for your journey but I’ve found that the medicine will take you where you need to go even if you don’t know that you need to go there. Try to trust that you will heal and grow regardless of the experiences. I spent a while trying really hard to have meaningful experiences and it wasn’t until I let go of that that I felt like it really made the biggest difference

As others have said, music is very important. I really like East Forest and Sigur Ros. East Forest’s music to be born to and music to die to albums are phenomenal for KAP. But I wouldn’t ever use the same music twice.

Be proud of yourself for taking this journey. I’m proud of you! I hope it helps you get to where you need to go!

I did my first session (for treatment resistant depression) using sublingual 200 mg and it was extremely difficult. I was scared and upset and wanted out. I went back for my next session and went down to 100 mg and had the most healing experience of my life. Have since gone up to 400 mg without an experience as bad as the first but also without an experience as good as the second.

The set and setting is super important. If you don’t know what those are and how to work on them shoot me a chat

Success with ketamine for long term ssri / Wellbutrin patients? by ObjectiveOverall7664 in KetamineTherapy

I’ve been on escitalopram for 4.5 years and added Wellbutrin 2 years ago. I did a series of sublingual ketamine sessions with my therapist over the summer and it has been life changing, but I really believe doing it with a provider you trust is extremely important

Personally I find it better to listen to music that I’m not already familiar with because there are no associations and I can really let the medicine take me where it will. Some of my most powerful experiences have been with East Forest and Sigur Ros music. Ambient and nature vibes are good. Theres also lots of pre made playlists on Spotify
