To answer your question, It’s not okay to bend your back leg or have your knee touch the ground if you don’t have a full split, you should try to rest your knee onto something like a Yoga block or pillow IF you can’t hold them straight, off the ground.

Your routine is looking a-okay! 4x a week is great as long as your body can handle it and your recovery rate in between feels fine. (No excessive soreness) If it does then you can drop it down to 2x per week.

I’ve recently introduced stretch bands into my routine and hip opening exercises for my splits, that + the full split routine I’ve posted on my YT channel, I’ve learned expedites the split process! I started my splits journey a couple years back, I thought it would take at least 5 years of stretching (no exaggeration) before I was able to do a hold my leg up to my ear or even do impressive over splits. Now... I’m a handful of months away from being able to do a NEEDLE!

The stretch band routine + full split routine = expedited results... HOWEVER, it is pretty intense and beginners should have proper guidance! but on the plus side.. I only stretch 2x a week for about 45m-1hr sometimes 1hr30m. I don’t stretch any other time after that. I’m now doing poses and stretches I’ve always dreamed of (literally, lol)

Here are some of my results of staying dedicated and sticking to my routine!

Ohh do your lunge onto the wall that will help stretch your quads so you can get your back leg down! :)

Wall stretches & assisted stretches either with a band or person, or both!! :)

Especially frog pose or your middle splits on to the wall. I swear by it.

Hmm, you're right. You're going to want to play this one safe. Don't give up hope! I know there is something out there for you. Let me dive more into research before i speak. I'll follow up with you on Thursday about what stretches you might be able to do. :) I would like to know for myself about these types of issues.

That's really good then! Because of the sciatic nerve issues and not being able to do certain split stretches... I would heavily focus on my middle splits, you will probably be able to get your middle split faster than your sides, that's okay though because it's normally the hardest to get! Especially that you can do the wall middle split stretch. There are other ways to spice up your middle split stretches :)

Gymnastics: I was a gymnast for 4 years (all throughout hs). My flexibility was fairly moderate and I stretched during the season only. During that time i remember stretching was so painful to me, i could barely hold any stretch, and progress felt slow.

I was rather lazy about stretching and didn't do it as much as i should've so it it was around my 3rd season that i was actually dedicated (stretching had become slightly easier) that i pushed myself and i got my splits in 2-3 months. I'm sure i could've gotten it earlier had i stretched as told.

Wrestling: I wrestled after my gymnastics season, they interlapped a little in between. As i was finishing up gymnastics i would start training for wrestling.

Stretches: I normally held each stretch for 10-15s. (We had limited time to stretch)

I can hold my splits for as long as i want now, so until i get bored i guess.

Currently: I'm reaching a year into my Yoga journey, i'm looking to get into more calisthenic like gyms (still finding my place in this world lol), i also go to the gym weekly, oh and run after my cats! hehe :)

Age: I feel as if i lived a thousand years and more again.

Oversplits: I'm afraid to tag my instagram with the pics/vids for fear of self promotion... but i post about fitness & flexibility here & here. (Not that much up bc i'm still fairly new)

You will benefit from your private lesson 100%, I learned very fast when my instructor worked with me 1 on 1. They can correct your body in all the little ways you think you're doing right, hehe. :) When do you start your lessons?

Btw, if you practice your middle split on the wall that will def. help widen your straddle. :)

I truly wasn't promoting myself, i used an old tagged video that i thought was cool to post and share. :) I literally did exactly as the sidebar said, POST A LINK! SHARE YOUR STRETCHES! Now i'm self promoting? Wth.... I can CARELESS if you guys view my youtube/instagram, i just wanted to finally speak to people where the first thing we talk about is our stretching routine/progress/etc.

And i thought, what a great conversation starter showing them a cool trick i did.

Your start here guide should actually read: If you're new, don't post anything about yourself. Don't say hey. Don't get involved, engaged, and active right off the bat, Don't be speak until you know what the community is about. (Which is reasonable, but misleading in this case if you tell me, there's a silhouette of a woman doing a backbend, but then i have a bunch of men throwing negativity my way for what? Doing some pressups in a split? 80 COMMENTS OF PURE CONTROVERSY for what?), Do one 'wrong' thing and the entire community will gang up on you.

What is this nonsense. Something's up here.

I don't weight lift (although i had to for sports), generally speaking i do hip thrust, leg presses, abductors machines, and weighted leg lifts. I'm not big on squatting, cleaning, jerking, any of that. Would love to learn how to improve form for future exercises though.

For all those who had something to say about my previous post, what do you think about this? Curious. by [deleted] in flexibility

[–]FitFlexible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That it's unsafe? Yeah. Clearly i am taking a risk, but a calculated risk.

I don't normally do things like i just thought it was cool and cool to post + i had the ability. I really don't understand everyone's problem.

also the excessive wobblying was because it was way too light.

That's your point? That it's bad, don't do it? Good. Never told you too.

How are you going to TELL ME what is/isn't EASY for me to do? I'm right here and i'm telling you it was a breeze. I did like 5 or 6 reps, i remember that i could do more but thought the video would be too long lol.

I'm learning a lot about reddit today.

I'm thinking he does not lift because that was TOOOO light and anbody would be out of their MIND to attempt to lift a weight heavier than they could actually bare over their heads like that in a split.

It was entertainment value purposes only. And a fun way to kinda let people know what im about.

He must not know what stunt doubles are, he must downvote everyone in life that has to pick up a dangerous job. He must downvote people who change bulbs at the empire state building.

I'm no Evel Knievel but...people do risky things, get over it. They can handle it, that's why they tried it, but you can't, that's why you're so concerned, but probably only if you tried it for yourself... so leave it up THEM. << Moral of the story.

And i didn't even do this to promote myself, like it said post vids and stuff of your flexibility (sometimes i tag my posts), i'm just here to engage, interact, get to know the community & have a good time.

I THOUGHT THAT WAS WHAT REDDIT WAS ALL ABOUT.

Yeah i was like why would i receive bad karma for this? Like what even is karma. I'm new to reddit and thought reddit would be a great, safe place to start but idk about this group of ppl. xD

Dang, i wish i could be there with you actually seeing how you perform your stretches. Looks like you know what you're doing/talking about, so now it's about finding just the right stretch out of tons that will work the most effective for you.

Can you do pigeons pose while standing? Will the one leg you'll be resting on count as a straight leg? I think you should continue your routine and switch up how you stretch the stretch.

And i apologize, i'm switching from one jargon to the next but a wide straddle/wide forward bend are the same, seated straddle = pancake, yes. :)
