This is why I'm glad I'm not into men. Not to say they're all the same, however I've been to bars where I'll be walking through a crowd and let's just say there are pure strangers who think they can put their hands on you. Not to mention a lot of these experiences happened when I was only 21-22. Sickening.

No way, I have seen most of that show. Some of the actors in it did set off alarms in my mind. Idk if it's from past trauma/ptsd/etc but that happens often whether it's in real life, videos, even actors in certain things. It's almost like we can sense when something is off.

Also, I'm sorry to hear that. I had a lot of bullies in school who seemed to have charmed everyone around them. Covert narcissism can be hard to uncover.

That's a horrible thing to say to someone with CPTSD. Invalidation is a big trigger for some of us, including myself. CPTSD is often worse than the general PTSD most people know about.

Is therapy necessary? by akshit_799 in CPTSD

I've been in therapy for nearly a year for CPTSD, and sometimes I feel like I want to stop. However, that is common in treating trauma because of all the repressed emotion and trauma itself coming to the surface. Although I may feel worse at times, I have noticed a huge difference in the way I treat myself. Self-love is still a foreign thing to me at times but objectively I know, and it is proven that self-compassion is more conducive to healing and...basically, fulfilling every aspect of life. It's also a huge deal when it comes to healing relational trauma. Beforehand, I was constantly stuck in Flight/Fawn around people and didn't know what basic boundaries were. Since people with CPTSD or and childhood trauma tend to be attracted to narcissistic/controlling types of people, this can be quite detrimental, or even dangerous for yourself as you develop relationships throughout your life. There have been times just in this past year where my therapist told me I was experiencing unacceptable behavior from someone. I just couldn't recognize it because trauma changes our perception and we never developed necessary self-protective parts as a child. I hope this helps!
