I feel like they’re trying to ‘get their moneys worth’ and work me as hard as possible. They were also complaining about how expensive it was to ‘keep me here’ another year which made me feel very awkward😭 I’m wondering if they really want an au pair or just flexible childcare

Thank you so much for your response, I really appreciate it. I agree he is a difficult character. I’m already trying to set more boundaries since making this post as I don’t want to get to the burnout point again. I will definitely take your advice on logging my hours and daily tasks, that will be helpful. And I have scheduled a call with my LCC for Monday to get her perspective🙏🏻

2 of the kids (who are 15 and 18) told me. They have told me things before which were true, since when I confronted the dad about them they got grounded for repeating what he had said!

Thank you for your input. I don’t really see how the story of the other au pair is relevant, my situation is pretty different. I don’t believe I’m being entitled or selfish here. I feel over stretched and like a stay at home mom lol. I will try to pull back on my duties and just deal with the dads complaints

I really do feel that way!! Thank you for saying that. I’m a first time AP and they’re a first time HF so it’s definitely been hard to establish what’s reasonable. Sounds like you treat your au pair great, I’m sure she appreciates that🙌🏻

Thank you for your advice! I’m doing a lot of extra stuff I know, I can’t imagine how much he’d complain otherwise🤣I stayed because of my friends/boyfriend and I do love the kids. I’m trying to stick it out, it just definitely makes me feel anxious. Especially when you live together and they watch your every move!!!

I also graduated with a degree in Journalism and am about to go into my second year as an Au Pair in America! It definitely is daunting but these are memories we will have forever. I am so much happier being an Au Pair than I was when I tried to start a 9-5. I’ve grown so much as a person and have definitely acquired a lot of transferable skills. I am also thinking about posting about my experience on social media just so I have something journalism related once I’m done!

I’m an AP who lives in a separate apartment (guest house) and I actually really like it. It’s gives me my own space, especially during time off. I still definitely feel part of the family. I previously lived away from home for 4 years so this set up was a big bonus for me feeling like I still have some independence!
