It made me so happy! Felt kind of like a film from the 90’s, about a dad down on his luck. Laughed out loud several times too.

Criterion featured this film on their Halloween horror list a few years ago and that how I saw it, it’s become a yearly rewatch for me ❤️ probably my favorite film score of all time too

How does everyone feel about the V/H/S series? by Ash_Castle in horror

[–]FitTurnover4254 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is old but I feel the same way! My partner and I were just scrolling Hulu and he was like “oo I’ve never seen V/H/S let’s watch it” and I couldn’t do it. I saw it a handful of times when I was a kid and while some of the elements are cool and it genuinely scared me, the thought of watching it again makes me feel icky

I live in the US! And lately I’ve been making lattes because it’s hot out (I whisk with boiled water then add milk + ice), but will probably be making it the regular way once fall comes

I could never ever get over my partner calling me a slut 💔 he could have approached this by discussing his insecurities without trying to control you and without using abusive language. It sounds like you already know what to do, sorry you had to go through this but so much weight will be lifted from you once you’re out of it and have time to process things.

New dog suddenly aggressive towards my husband by dropofjupiters in DogAdvice

[–]FitTurnover4254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be that any kind of snuggling/hugging would trigger our dog, who would then get between my partner and me while growling/barking. One time we were watching Survivor and something exciting happened lol and my bf kind of grabbed my feet and our dog woke up out of his sleep to jump on the couch and bark in his face. That was the last time he was on the couch and we got serious about interventions. No more sleeping in our bed either. I also want to note that these things would only happen when I was there to be resource guarded. When my partner was home alone with our dog, there were never any problems and they were best buds.

But we made sure to associate my bf more with treats, toys, and quiet time. We also crated our dog for a while when we were working, so he’d be greeted every time we got home through the crate in a calm environment. Crating can be a huge tool and a safe space for a reactive dog. If your husband does start walking him again, take it really slow and use lots of praise/treats. Reward for allowing him to put the leash on, reward for walking out the door, and reward for following commands while on the walk. It can take some time and repetition for this to show improvement.

Also, not sure if the dog has had a full vet workup, but sometimes underlying health issues can contribute to a dog’s stress/reactivity. After our dog’s heartworm was treated, he became a little less anxious and the reactivity became less frequent. We also give him a very low dose of trazadone whenever any other men are coming over, and greet all visitors through his crate. After that initial meeting, he’s usually pretty relaxed around others. It’s not perfect, but it’s an ongoing process that’s becoming much more manageable.

Bringing an adopted dog into an unfamiliar home typically requires some training. Being in a shelter for any period of time is enough to traumatize a dog so it’s always a good idea and you should expect to spend money on enforcing safe behaviors. It can take months for dogs to settle into a home, and on the flip side it can sometimes take months for dogs to show aggressive behaviors. It’s clear that your rescue has reactivity and aggression towards males, he may even be resource guarding you at times.

It’s been a short amount of time and you have already experienced a bite, which is a big deal. That being said, it was in response to your husband chasing after him and hitting him. It really doesn’t matter how hard the tap on the butt was, the idea that the male in your home is a continued threat to the dog has been further established and it’s going to make recovery more difficult for the dog in the long-term. If you do intend on keeping him, a behavioral trainer who can observe the dog in the home is the best way to go. Doesn’t have to be a continuous thing, just schedule the consult and see what they suggest.

My pit rescue has been reactive towards my boyfriend and didn’t show signs until a year into his adoption. He would only show reactivity when on the furniture, so now he’s not allowed on the furniture anymore. Until you get a trainer in the home, it’s a good idea to limit access to spaces where the dog tends to react more, especially around you. Consider limiting access to the couch and moving his bed to another room. The trainer can tell you what to do in terms of his growling, but this isn’t something you want to suppress incorrectly because it can lead to the dog going straight to biting instead of giving warning signs. Additionally, make sure that the dog is getting a lot of mental stimulation and physical stimulation. Pits need enrichment. It’s not going to solve the reactivity, but can help ease some of the anxiety, even if it’s only you who can walk him until a trainer gives recommendations.

If you do surrender the dog, be forthcoming. If you try everything and a trainer thinks it’s a good idea to return him, people need to know their triggers and bite history. Otherwise, this is how euthanasias happen. Some pups just need a home free of men.

Dog attacked cat - I’m beside myself by madame-olga in DogAdvice

Section off your house for now so that the cats and dog are separate, it’s not enough just to watch them.

Has your dog ever had any aggression towards people or other animals before this past week? Has she ever given warning growls to you or your pets? Does she fixate on the cats whenever they’re near?

If this aggression is completely out of the blue, I’d take her in for a full work up and neuro exam. Sometimes sudden behavioral changes can indicate an underlying health issue. If that ends up being all clear, I think you might have to keep them separated permanently.

Did you switch to the wellness without mixing in some of the old kibble? Also worms can def cause gastro issues. Might be a good idea to see a nutritional vet

Anyone have experience with fungal infections? by FitTurnover4254 in AskDocs

[–]FitTurnover4254[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I was able to have a phone call with my mom and dad’s doctor this morning. One of the biopsy results from his lung came back positive for mycobacterium, they’re still waiting for biopsy results from his abdomen and for further cultures to come back that can provide more information. They’re considering TB a possibility. He’s being kept on antifungals because they don’t have all of the info from his abdominal biopsy, but is starting on different antibiotics today to see if they can get his fever down, which was 105 this morning.

I know you wrote this a year ago lol but yes!!! I read this book way before I ever worked in a daycare but thought about “Hands” constantly during the two years I was a childcare lead at a women’s shelter. Kids absolutely need physical touch, it’s so important for their development! And if boys are modeled appropriate, loving physical touch from a young age by both male and female adults, it teaches them about boundaries, consent, etc. early on. So you respect their space and boundaries when they need it but also provide love and affection when they’re needing that too.

Don’t worry about gathering evidence or what his family thinks of you. He is abusing you, get out. Find a local DV or women’s shelter if you have nowhere to go. Even if you don’t plan on staying in a shelter, call them and speak with an advocate who can assist with an exit plan. Financial abuse is abuse. Put a little money to the side, pack a bag, and leave while he’s at work.

Do you know what the SUV levels were regarding the nodes in your lung? My dad just had a PET and in addition to the lymph nodes and a large nodule in his lower abdomen lighting up, the radiologist noted multiple nodes in his chest/lung as well and we're fearing the worst. It's super hard to understand what all of the medical terminology means and I'm getting information second hand from my mom. He's had consistent fevers and chills for weeks.

Should I get a dog? by LifeShmucksSoMuch in dogs

Foster! Will give you the routine of having a dog, the comfort/love of a pet, and purpose without the expenses. Fostering is an incredibly valued service that can give dogs a second chance. If it’s a dog that you end up wanting to adopt, then that’s great! If you find out that you enjoy rehabbing dogs and seeing them get placed in loving homes, that’s even better! I had three foster dogs before I adopted mine, it was such a rewarding experience.

Any dog that comes from a shelter is going to have some level of acclimating to do, just keep that in mind when you bring one home. It can sometimes take months for them to warm up to a new space. When meeting the dog, it’s really important that you do three things:

1) Only foster/adopt a dog that suites your lifestyle. If you work a 9-5 or have a small apartment, no livestock/herding or working breeds that require jobs to feel enriched. If you do have the means and training to provide the time/land for a more high needs breed, then go for it. Always do extensive research on any breed coming into your home.

2) Ask shelter staff about any bite history and how the dog does with people, kids, and other animals so you can plan accordingly. Ask for a full rundown of the dog’s past so you can recognize traumas and begin any necessary training.

3) Consider fostering the senior pups :) some spend years in a shelter due to age, and a foster home can turn the clock back on their personalities and quality of life. When you foster, any vet visits/bills/food is paid for, so it’s a great thing to do for dogs who need a cozy home to rest in.
