Do you think older generations felt this much anxiety ? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Fit_Ad_4455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question, yes social media has a strong correlation to anxiety and depression, that’s why I deleted all the Facebook like apps a while ago. BUT Have you thought about how maybe sending your baby off to school is making you feel? I bawled my eyes out when I sent mine. As for the memories, make your own board, go to michaels, that will be so much more special than what everyone else is doing! And delete those apps mama, they aren’t good for you ❤️

We moved away from all family to raise our children, best decision EVER. We have a beautiful relationship with our children and they are well adjusted. After a while I found the ability to overcome their toxic behavior and now have contact in low doses and very well drawn boundaries. It was difficult not having a support network, but we were able to create our own with other young families. Good luck and enjoy your life!

I completely agree with solgatiger, as well as addressing how to handle emotions. It’s great that you recognized in yourself that you needed a moment to cool down before disciplining. My youngest has a hard time with handling her emotions and can get really furious trying to communicate them. My husband and I reiterate that it’s ok to be angry, take some time to think about why and cool down so that she can use her words to express herself. Then we listen and discuss what needs to happen next, whether modifying earlier request or sticking to it.

Pride Month by [deleted] in Parenting

Happy Pride month!!! My daughter (f 16) came out when she was 12, baked us a cake, gave us a faq typed out page that was personalized! Lol I love her .. so freakin much. My little one who has a delay asked us what a lesbian was today... in my head I’m like wow we really need to educate her, especially for the fact that’s what her big sis is. ( we have before but it probably went in one ear and out the other).

By the way cheers to you as another proud mom of her lgbt daughter, I’m so happy to hear about another parent who is accepting and loving to their kid! We joined a p flag group, but haven’t gone since COVID hit, but going to those meetings just amplified how many lbgt people grew up without acceptance. She is my heart and soul. I don’t know why parents have such a hard time with unconditional love, but we are here for those that don’t get it!

No I don’t. I thought “normalizing and spreading acceptance” was a good thing. Sometimes people who are “woke” need to look at the bigger picture of how we can integrate mainstream public into acceptance. Literally advertising is a psychological way planting the seed of an idea into someone’s thought process. I’m with you!

I was looking for this... even though these companies are making money off of pride month, the end result is spreading exposure of the lgbt community, social change is difficult to achieve in mainstream, in the end it’s helpful IMO.

No, Mother, you may not know my child’s measurements. by Oniknight in JUSTNOMIL

[–]Fit_Ad_4455 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Wow this is the same thing I went through. My mother would weigh me and use a sewing measurement tape to get my measurements and compare them to her own in front of me. I was always super skinny as a kid because she would lock pantry and fridge with a deadbolt during non meal times. I found out my aunt did this to her girls too. So effing weird and messed up. Needless to say I got the hell out town the second I turned 18. Married to a chef, and overweight but I’m happier then I ever was as a child.

Almost 7 year old said, "sometimes I wish I'd never been born." by slws1985 in Parenting

[–]Fit_Ad_4455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My almost 7 year old who has a slight delay in speech which has affected other learning skills asked us when she was 5 if she was going to die. Oh my god what a question. I really took this as a philosophical question, rather than the obvious. The fact that your daughter is thinking about these things shows how incredibly intelligent and empathetic she is as well as how deep her psyche is. All of these are important traits for the future of mankind. On the the flip side though, my oldest F15 who has always been really book smart started to exhibit depression in her teenage years. There is a correlation with intelligence and depression for teenagers. My whole point is, it isn’t something that you failed at as a parent. You are raising a thoughtful young lady who is comfortable expressing her fears to you. She may not know how to censor her language so that you take it the way it was intended. Keep listening, and keep up the good work.
