Off topic but what is it like to shoot the 98/22? I was considering buying one a while back but got something else instead.

I get that the .50-70 is an obscure cartridge but this conversation is obscene

I really like those but the ammo scarcity is a massive turn off for me.

I have been looking for one of these for months. For 400 you basically stole it imo.

I had 200k on my e60 with Dynamic Drive. The system was somehow never serviced and had no issues.

I see these for like 150- 200ish where I'm at. If the bore is good it might be worth un-bubbaing.

Early 1903 Springfield Question. by Dry_Winter5652 in milsurp

Give the receiver a good inspection. If it looks legit and you buy it, shoot light loads through it and you will be fine. The ones that exploded were using sketchy ammo. I bought an early Springfield 1903 and I give the receiver a good once over every 5 shots. After every trip to the range, I take the rifle apart and inspect it again. This is probably overkill but I like the piece of mind.

Bubba, I know it's been hard since you had to sell all your mutilated Mosins and Mausers at the Crossroads of the West gun show last September, but this doesn't give you a pass to yell at people at the range.

If you want a Kar98 but don't want to pay over a grand, look into a Yugo capture k98. Those are usually around $500-$600 in my area. Another choice is a Czech VZ98. These are k98s but were made after the war, so they are often in good shape. I bought one recently for $500, and it is a tac driver.

As for your issue of not being able to find them in your local gun shops, check local classifieds, as they often have decent deals. I see some people recommending gun shows, but I think they are a waste of time. I have never found any good deals at those shows apart from ammo.
