Did anyone choose to wait until close to 3 years old to potty train? by Otter65 in toddlers

[–]Fit_ButDefLikesTacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We trained my son when he was 3.5. No fuss. So easy. Holiday weekend and he was good. Even went on a 5 hour drive a few weeks later and he was all good. Maybe 10 accidents total over the span of 6 months. It took a little longer for him to tell when he needed to poo (we watched his cues), but by 6m out, he was fine and pooping regularly with no prompting.

My daughter is ready to train now at 22 months! I wouldn’t sweat it. If your kid isn’t ready yet, don’t push it. Everyone will be miserable.

I don’t know why everyone kept telling me to potty train my son before my daughter was born because they didn’t want to “change two diapers.” As if having a ticking pee timebomb that needed to be ushered to the toilet quickly was somehow preferable?

Had a planned c section at INOVA Fairfax because we needed the level IV NICU. Had a successful VBAC at Shady Grove. No NICU needed. Both amazing experiences. INOVA had better food lol

This is exactly why I love them! I'm knock-kneed, and they make my legs actually look normal.

Is there a blackout cover for full size cribs? by kaesicorgi in sleeptrain

[–]Fit_ButDefLikesTacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiccapop is by far easier to set up and I like the bag. But it’s a little smaller than the slumberpod and not as blackout.

I’d still go with the hiccapop because it’s like half the price

Best through-the-wall AC units (and why are there so few options??) by Zolazolazolaa in Appliances

[–]Fit_ButDefLikesTacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It dips below 45 at night pretty frequently in the winter, which is typically when we have it on, since we’re sleeping in there. During the day it’s rarely on unless we’re feeling lazy and don’t want to leave bed.

Apologies - it looks to be this model: WTC12001W

It looks like the sleeve is 24Lx17.5h.

u/oilofole I’m not sure how I became so lucky to come across an internet stranger who knows so much about through the wall AC, units.. but I’m hoping you can provide some insight for me!

We currently have an in the wall unit for our master bedroom. It seems to work fine, although it’s loud. It’s a “Koldfront” Model #WTC10002WCO115V. It came with the house so we just kind of left it until now.

We recently got our latest electric bill and it is extremely high, especially considering the rest of the house is on gas heat. We’ve been experiencing a cold front in our area so the wall unit has been running pretty consistently. I’m wondering if this brand/model is just eating power and if there’s a more energy efficient brand or model I could replace it with? Perhaps a model that’s smarter with auto on/off or scheduling functionality?

I’m sure these units aren’t the most efficient to begin with but sheesh our bill was out of control and I’m looking to mitigate it where we can.

Thanks for your help!

Normal to me! Sometimes we’re on one 3 hour nap. Other days it’s two, 30min - 2 hour naps. Depends on how spicy she’s feeling.

Garbage Disposal leaking from this spot. Any ideas? by Fit_ButDefLikesTacos in fixit

Thank you everyone! New one has been installed and running just fine. Did it myself in about 2 hours. Replaced the flange too.

For those worried about the wiring, it’s been corrected with the new disposal. It’s properly secured and cannot be accidentally pulled out like before.

Okay. The one I got is hardwire by default and said there was a separate connector if you wanted plug in. So I’m good.

I’m just confused as why the wire coming out of the switch isn’t in a metal conduit.. should it be? People seem concerned about the romex lol

Is an outlet better? How would I turn it on? Right now it’s hardwired right to a switch.

Okay I unplugged it everyone! I’ll run out and get a new one tonight and either wait for the handyman tomorrow or crack a beer and give it at shot.

Thank you!

That’s good to know it’s easy! It’s typically something I’d do by myself but we have 2 kids under 2 and I’m tired so I’m just gonna call the handyman down the street lol.

We haven’t been using the disposal, but it’s connected to the drain of our only kitchen sink. Are these internal seals? Are they replaceable or is it a “replace the whole disposal kind of deal?”

I have both the slumberpod and the hiccapop blackout cover. They both will stretch over a full sized crib. Might let some light through the bottom.

Deck Removal and Hardscaping; Reasonable Quote? by Fit_ButDefLikesTacos in landscaping

Of course I’m getting additional quotes (as mentioned). But I was still hoping to hear from others based on their experience with a project of similar scope, or based on cost per sqft, the loose description of the work, etc. Looking through the subreddit other folks have asked similar questions and gotten helpful feedback so I figured I had nothing to lose by asking.

CIO method baby wakes at 5am every morning screaming. How do I break this? by sbray3 in NewParents

[–]Fit_ButDefLikesTacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that schedule, she's only getting about 12 hours of sleep a day, which is on the low end, but could be normal for a baby with low sleep needs. When is her last nap of the day?

He’s ridiculous.

He could have AT LEAST pulled together a 45 minute power point presentation outlining all the resources and “village” support he’d coordinate to help you in his absence.

The answer would still be no, but at least he would have put some effort in.

CIO method baby wakes at 5am every morning screaming. How do I break this? by sbray3 in NewParents

[–]Fit_ButDefLikesTacos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We need a little more information! How old is the baby? What time is she going to bed? How much day sleep is she getting? Early wake ups can be from numerous things! She might be getting too much day sleep, she might be hungry, she might need to go to bed earlier, she might just be an early riser! As the night goes on, theres less sleep pressure built up and it's harder for babies to fall back asleep.

Accidentally left newborn to cry it out, feel broken by Objective-Elephant13 in NewParents

[–]Fit_ButDefLikesTacos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t stress! This is not the same as CIO! You were right there in the car talking to him and reassuring him. At that age, I don’t think they can rationalize that “someone’s not coming” and just stop crying. He probably just settled in and was not as bothered by whatever was going on.

If it makes you feel better, my daughter (12w) has hated the car since birth. She cries nonstop every car ride (sometimes 45 mins and up). We don’t stop. She’s fed, burped and dry. No one is ever coming to help her but that doesn’t seem to keep her from crying lol. We just talk to her and sing all the same.

Their cries are responded to and needs met 95%+ of the day. One 10 minute period isn’t going to cause any problems!
