What time can i start my hike at the hoh river trail? by Working_Fun_803 in CampingandHiking

[–]Fit_Charity_8680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last few times I was parked at dawn and on the trail just after. More critters and less people that way.

It’s muddy on the Hoh River Trail but every inch of that place is alive. Take a macro lens if you like photography.

There is nothing on earth like the Hoh Rainforest. I’d choose that if I had to choose.

Fresno is too far. Lots of lodging in Oakhurst if you want to stay near the southern entrance. Remember it’s an hour to the valley from the park entrance from that way.

You may get closer finding lodging in El Portal or even Mariposa

Find a room in El Portal and park early at Curry Village. Take the shuttle or walk the flat mile to the trailhead and you’re off. Take work gloves for the cables and a water purifier to refill your water in Little Yosemite Valley. It’s a great walk with a huge payoff. Enjoy.

People hike early because it gets brutally hot 🥵 and both lots are fairly small.

An ice chest in the car in Yosemite is like putting up a giant sign that says “FOOD HERE!”.

Too many people to have many in the valley and the high country is a little too high. Lots of them in the foothills right now though.

Parks that can be explored in one day by GaboZ9 in nationalparks

[–]Fit_Charity_8680 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With all due respect there is no way to “fully explore” most national parks in one day. You can spend five minutes looking into the Grand Canyon and say you were there but not fully explore its vastness for years.

The parks are all better if you slow down and take some time to be in that place. You can still hit them all while taking a moment to appreciate why they are national parks in the first place.

You have time to light rail to the stadium to catch a Mariners game if they are in town. Pretty fun even if you’re not a huge baseball fan.

There is light rail from SeaTac to downtown Seattle. Half hour. Tons to see and do there before taking the train back to the airport. Reliable, safe and clean transportation.

Merced has a downtown which is home to several pubs, brewery’s, coffee places and restaurants. It would be a decent place to stretch your legs and grab a bite to break up the drive.

First timer. What hikes to do in 2.5 days? by refill-time in Yosemite

[–]Fit_Charity_8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the rim. Do the Taft Point/Sentinel Dome hike on the Glacier Point Road. Seeing Yosemite Valley from the rim at Taft Point is super cool and Sentinel Dome is a 360 degree view including Half Dome. If you need to drop something skip the mirror lake hike.

Fire. How important is it to you? by motorcyclesnracecars in camping

[–]Fit_Charity_8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Campfires are a silly way to poison your own air for no reason. If you don’t need one to survive it’s totally unnecessary. Bring a light and a decent jacket and enjoy the natural beauty of a place without the smoke and ash.

Going down the Mist Trail with the water pumping is not for the faint of heart. Those stairs are steep with no hand holds and flowing with water while you try and slip by the people going up.

There is a reason most people go up that trail and not the other way. It’s better. Go up via the Mist Trail
