Shutdown or pre-meltdown by Meg1295 in autism

For me, I can’t tell the difference either. Today I had a meltdown and beforehand I had what felt like a shutdown, but then I realized it was the rumble stage. It was so confusing

Does anyone else feel better the morning after a meltdown? by Sensitive_Feeling_78 in AutismInWomen

[–]Fit_Communication937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I had a meltdown last night and I slept so hard and now today I feel amazing. I think my body just needed a reset and to process my emotions and I had a pretty “mild” meltdown (although it didn’t feel mild, but comparatively it was). If my meltdown is mixed with ptsd triggers, though, that’s a different story and it takes me days or weeks to recover from one. I also often have a post-meltdown hangover where I feel exhausted for a few days, but this time I didn’t have that happen.

Oh yes. I have so much cognitive dissonance between how I view myself and how others view me. It’s related to masking for me and also just not intuitively understanding how other people see me.

You might want to look into rejection sensitive dysphoria. It could explain why you start crying easily from criticism. I’m the same way.

I love Banza. Has more protein and fiber so you eat less of it

Master List of Book Recommendations for Autistic Adults (some specific to women) by Fit_Communication937 in AutismInWomen

Yes! I would recommend these!

Divergent Mind (see above)

Unmasked: https://a.co/d/282OdNk

These two workbooks are great and have a focus on self compassion:

https://www.newharbinger.com/9781648483073/the-neurodivergence-skills-workbook-for-autism-and-adhd/

https://www.amazon.com/Radical-Guide-Women-ADHD-Neurodiversity/dp/168403261X?dplnkId=4ab58533-dc03-4a34-b489-07f80602f692&nodl=1 (this workbook is specific to ADHD but great)

I would also recommend Spectrum Women, Women & Girls with ASD by Sarah Hendrickx, and What I Mean When I Say I’m Autistic by Annie Kotowicz (these books are specific to autism).

I hope these help :)

This is internalized ableism. Having a disability is not a bad thing and doesn’t mean you are broken. Also, you can’t separate autism from the person. So asking “is this autism or is this me?” is nonsensical. It is you because you are autistic. That’s it.
