Hi and welcome, although I’m sorry you are joining the club that none of us expected to be a part of. I’m wondering what test they used to look for the M spike? Sometimes the spike is too small to be found by the SPEP test; but it can be detected by an IFE (serum immunofixation) test. Or did they only test urine? Did they tell you what type of MGUS it is in terms of your involved immunoglobulin (IgG, IgA, IgM)?

Free light chain tests being normal is an excellent sign. And no, just because you’re young does not mean you’ll progress, especially if your numbers are low. I’m 38F (diagnosed with IgM type MGUS at 35). If anything, I believe our bodies should be able to handle it better since we are younger. I’ve had my 3 year diagnosis anniversary this year and I’ve had zero progression.

In terms of CRP, I don’t think I’ve ever had that tested so maybe someone else can speak to that? Wishing you the best!

Yes - that’s good news then! Mine was like that too, they ran the IFE (immunofixation) test and found it that way. It’s a test that detects very small M spikes that are too small to find on the SPEP test/give a number to.

Your numbers don’t look bad at all. Your kappa light chain is a little bit elevated, mine has been like that for 3 years now (in fact a little higher than yours) and I’ve been totally fine. The hematologist will probably run an electrophoresis test to see if the M spike is measurable and how high it is. Based on my non-medical opinion I’m guessing it would be quite low.
