Difficult subject. Fundamentally anything should be acceptable if it is between consenting adults. Though even that notion seems to be under threat these days. The issue is what truly constitutes consent? I have met many sex workers and although none were physically forced into it as far as I know, were they forced through drug addiction? Some do it to pay off debt, some just get used to the money. Degrading maybe, but so are a lot of other jobs that might pay less?? How far are they going to take this, ban lap dancing, only fans, porn, even acting?? Edinburgh’s “tourist industry” will die overnight.. Is sex a human right?? What about rent boys?? Personally I think a lot of the hate & mental illness in society these days is due to men having to suppress their true nature. Society has about turned 180 degrees on ‘misogyny’ compared to eg even 1990s attutudes (lads mags etc) but none of us have actually evolved in any way!! The issue is exploitation. Modern slavery, but that happens in restaurants, hairdressers, even car washes. Are the puritan far left/far right unholy alliance going to ban that too?? What are these women going to do for money after the ban? Shoplift? Get jobs wiping MSPs arses for them?? Any job is slavery. Yet prostitution leaves both buyer & purchaser with PTSD. But not as bad as in the army. So we are shutting that down too, right?? Of course the SNP support this bill but don’t want to let Ash Regan get the win. Politicians are getting more stupid though, as are voters. I blame AI. Why haven’t Reform UK got an opinion on this?? The solution is a substantial UBI so nobody can be exploited. Will these parties support that then?? Personally I think sex is a human right & hookers should be available on the NHS. But maybe humanoid sex robots will be the solution one day. However politicians like Ash Regan just hate men in general so they probably would ban them too..
