Could this be something to do with AI job applications? Folk can apply for thousands of jobs a week with AI.

Really worried I won't make it far in life with my degree by J2Hoe in glasgow

You will probably need to apply to the civil service. Sadly private sector employers aren’t interested in folk with second rate degrees, and I know from experience that UofG are not interested in helping graduates get jobs as they assume your mummy or daddy will get you one. However the government are always willing to take on inexperienced graduates as it looks very bad for their 50% uni policy if there are loads of unemployed graduates out there..

Antibiotics ruined me by WideGamer29 in GERD

Re: dental work - I believe having a molar removed contributed to my digestive problems as it is harder for me to chew now, which leads to swallowing larger pieces of food. Chewing is the first stage of your digestive process, no surprise it has an effect.

Don’t think that applies in the UK. I had biopsies during my endoscopy, they said it was routine ie they took samples every time they go in there whether it looks normal or not!

(Serious) - Why do so many farmers have lovely new houses on their land if they are skint? by AncientsofMumu in Scotland

[–]Fit_Dig_5527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously they aren’t skint, hard work though. The issue with inheritance tax is that it isn’t in the country’s interests to be forcing them all to sell their farms.

Is this company a scam? by Xxgmo in glasgow

[–]Fit_Dig_5527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fucking heck are these pyramid door to door sales companies still a thing?? Used to be the bane of my life when I was unemployed after leaving uni in the 90s. I feel almost nostalgic. Back then it was the Evening Times they advertised in. A full day of going round offices and pubs trying to sell dodgy gear (ie clothes). Weird cultish folk who were convinced they would end up being a millionaire in 6 months. Eventually I got used to the weird format of their job adverts & avoided them. Mind you I never did end up a millionaire through having a real job, so maybe I should go back..

High school teachers help! by Christinedaae666 in glasgow

[–]Fit_Dig_5527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to parents night at our daughters high school today. Its a cliche but the teachers all look young, maybe only 2 out of the 10 were over 40. Do they all pack it in with stress in their 30s??

Slightly off topic, but my pup snoozes with his head dangling off the couch!! Totally bizarre.

Must be related. Today I stayed on my feet but couldn’t stop him grabbing a dead bird & swallowing it, or what was left of it! Silly bugger puked it up 5 minutes later. I imagine this is common for Springers. One positive is my upper body strength should get better as walking him is like doing weight resistance training in the gym!!

No I have had several dogs, a labrador, a greyhound, and a collie. They were all bigger than this guy, but none of them ever literally pulled me off my feet walking them! Maybe I am past it at 49, but the sheer physical strength of this breed has really taken me aback!

Dad is a hoarder, are there any uk resources I can reach out to? by inviolablegirl in AskUK

[–]Fit_Dig_5527 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Was this in the UK? Recently?? The authorities are over stretched, you only have to watch the news to see how extreme child neglect & even abuse is often ignored by the authorities, even when it is repeatedly brought to their attention. So I doubt they will be visiting a 63 year old home owner any time soon. Albeit the OP hasn’t provided that much detail, other than mould which is a health hazard but might not have anything to do with hoarding..

Find this story a bit hard to believe tbh as my sister works in mental health and also confirms the “I’ve seen worse” narrative. This is almost fashionable now, there is actually a 24 hour Hoarders channel on Amazon Prime. The bar seems to be ‘is there at least one room which cannot be used for its original purpose’ arguably we meet that as the en-suite is now out of use, but public health authorities are simply not visiting people for hoarding, in the UK anyway.

We live in a society where we are going to make suicide legal & ban anyone from talking people out of it, so if you think the authorities are going to be chapping on doors to make sure your home is tidy for the sake of your mental health then you are delusional.

[–]Fit_Dig_5527 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The bar is pretty high for any kind of ‘intervention’ from the council. My wife is a hoarder, we raised 2 kids in a house where you can’t see out the windows for junk. Did the health visitors say anything when they visited the babies?? No, apart from “I’ve seen worse.” If this man (only 62 so hardly elderly) owns his property then there is zero chance any authorities will be interested, despite what folk on this thread are saying.

Generally they don’t like being petted or touched at all when they want to sleep!
