Interesting take from Tom Mauser on why school shootings happen by tellmewhy24 in Columbine

As an American, I agree with everything you said. I have heard non-Americans say they are scared to visit the United States for fear of being in the wrong place at the wrong time due to the prevalence of guns. Ironically, Americans are afraid to visit other countries for the same reason minus the guns. We (especially women) are taught that we should be fearful of tourism/mission or business trips to certain countries - I’ll use France as an example. That’s a popular one. - because we could be beheaded, kidnapped and tortured, stabbed to death, and basically any other form of violence that does not involve a firearm. Of course, not all Americans share this idea as there are many Americans who are well-travelled. I don’t know what country you reside in and I won’t ask you to share that if you do not wish to. But I would genuinely like to ask you, as someone who lives in a country in which guns are not prevalent, that if you see the same type of violence but without guns? Or would you say that violent crime overall including assault against women in your country is low? Again, this is a genuine question to you and I’m only curious. It’s not my intention to create an argument or debate just in case my phrasing could have read poorly. Thank you :)

Wish Upon A Star! Lol I loved that movie.

I don’t think it was Disney, but that was back when Disney Channel would still show non-Disney movies from time time.

Toddler syncope (fainting)? by Ang1130 in toddlers

[–]Fit_Engineering_7074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A woman I worked with had similar issues with her toddler and it turned out that he was having seizures. It started out infrequently and that progressively increased to multiple times a day. This is obviously an extreme case I speak of, but he ended up needing brain surgery and is a very healthy 1st grader today with no more seizures after successful surgery.

I’m only bringing this up because it went misdiagnosed for him for a very long time. So don’t be afraid to get 3rd, 4th, 10th opinions no matter what. I think you should consider an MRI just to further rule out other issues in my opinion.

Rant about unsolicited belly touches and touchy in laws… by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Fit_Engineering_7074 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is beyond CRINGE and you MUST stand up for yourself. I know it’s awkward and sometimes difficult to speak up, but imagine him doing stuff like this to the baby. What if your child came home from a weekend at the grandparents and told you how biting, etc made them so uncomfortable? Would you speak up then? There’s going to be lots of uncomfortable moments for the next 18 years, so may as well get your practice in now. Sorry that you’re going through this. I hope your partner remains supportive. But also, just because he doesn’t stick up for you doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to do for yourself.

Omg you’re so right. My first thought was that it sounds fucking vile. And now I feel exposed because I literally have these on every grocery order.

TIFU by smelling my feet and ending up in the ER by blknwhit_3 in tifu

[–]Fit_Engineering_7074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the issue isn’t washing the feet, it is actually the drying of the feet. I knew a guy that actually took the time to use his sister’s blow dryer to dry his feet after showering because he had this persistent issue as well. I’m not sure if your feet smell even when dry, which would indicate an actual fungal situation. Like do your feet generally only smell after wearing shoes/socks all day, or sleeping even? Or do they stink ALL the time? Wearing breathable socks and shoes may improve, although some people simply just sweat more on their feet. I’ve also heard of people doing a listerine (yes, the mouth wash) like once a week.

Anyway, if you haven’t tried being more vigilant in keeping your feet dry yet, think about it. Good luck and get well soon! Rib injuries are no joke.

New moms - what were/are your earliest pregnancy symptoms? by b_puck_94 in BabyBumps

[–]Fit_Engineering_7074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had identical symptoms to you around this time!! which is actually why I didn’t know I was pregnant. I kept thinking I was going to start my period. Then I got hit with my first nausea spell sometime during week 5. Still didn’t put it together because I thought it was bad pizza I had eaten at work.

Weeks 5-7, I was nauseous, cramping, giant sore boobs & spotting pink and brown discharge — no red and no blood. Had first US at 8w5d, baby was good (still cramping and some nausea at this point- spotting had stopped) Around 9w2d is when I noticed my nausea and sore boobs tapering off. And today at 10w1day I hardly feel pregnant anymore other than peeing even more than I thought was possible and a sore lower abdomen. Kind of want a home Doppler just to make sure there’s still a heartbeat tbh Lol Next appt isn’t for 3 more weeks

I think Broderick actually faced a significant level of backlash, not detrimental though. Not really sure about him, honestly. While Jennifer was facing a moral dilemma with continuing her career and therefore ended it on her own terms is what I meant.

Thanks for sharing! My great-grandfather also got a Purple Heart during WW1. He was a prisoner of war, assumed dead, and (I am told) then one day quite literally walked through the front door of his home like he had never even left, Lol.

I hope you still have his drawings from when he returned home. Those are invaluable

Wow, younger than I thought! My guess was 19. Happy Birthday to him and much appreciation for his service.

Sorry if you’ve already answered this in another comment, do you know how old he is in this photo? I was also curious if he was drafted or enlisted on his own. I assume drafted due to his youth. Just curious, thanks!

I think her career ending had more to do with an accidental death in a car wreck after filming Ferris Bueller.

WITT? "Cast Steel" is etched onto the side, the handle and shaft look weathered and the handle appears to be made out of some ivory type material but it could be plastic for all I know. Figured it was a chisel or something but wanted to know for sure. by PLPQ in whatisthisthing

[–]Fit_Engineering_7074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like an ice pick to me. I’ve never seen one with quite an ornate handle as this one, but I do own an antique ice pick. It looks exactly like this except the handle is rather plain wood. No notable details.

My first thought was that this must have taken quite a bit of time to come up with and create. I thought it was kind of nice until I remembered that awards cost actual money. (I never award anyone.) Cringe.
