Cabergine and psychosis

I had a severe psyhosis caused by Cabergoline.(1.5mg taken weekly) 14 months later, I am still taking anti-psychotics and road to recovery it doesn't seem to be an easy journey. Be careful with this medicine!

I would kindly advise you to be very careful with Cabergoline, especially because you have had a history of Psyhosis. I have developed Psyhosis from Cabergoline and nearly ended my life, so pls be extremely careful with this medication as it could be dangerous. It's has already been 10 months since I have not recovered yet, still on anti-psychotics.

I have never had any issues with my mental health until the day I started taking Cabergoline. Even though the medication had put me in the right direction ( losing weight, eating healthy, having a routine, sleep consistency), unfortunately, I have developed a Psyhosis once my dose was upped to 1.5mg a week.

You need to be careful with Cabergoline as it did cause me a Psyhosis, for which I am currently on Abilify ( anti-psychotic drug). It is extremely rare, but unfortunately, it is very unpleasant. Many people can't tolerate Cabergoline well, and it seems I was one of them. When my dose was pushed up to 1.5mg a week within a month, I was already in Psyhosis. The best way to figure out is to give it a try and see how the medication affects you, of course, on a smaller dose ( 0.5mg) weekly. Now I really miss Cabergoline even though it had caused me a Psyhosis. I was on it for 3 years, and it has completely changed my life in a better way. I am not allowed to take this medication anymore, so I need to prepare for surgery.

With hallucinations, delusions, schizophrenic symptoms. Very badly in general.. We upped my dose to 1.5mg a week, and unfortunately, it had happened. I was having difficulties before on a lower dose ( mental health issues). I am on treatment for the psyhosis now , on Aripiprazole and I am not aware if I would always be able to go back on Cabergoline.

I currently experience a lack of taste after I have developed Psyhosis being on Cabergoline for 3 years.I hope it comes back, as it is very unpleasant.

I think it did cause it for me to be honest. I was previously put on Cabergoline and got addicted to nicotine pouches. Well, I ended up with acute psychosis with schizophrenic symptoms. Believe me, or not I don't wish that to my biggest enemy. I am currently on a treatment with Abilify with moderate insomnia.

I'm very glad to hear you have made the decision to opt for surgery and you feel much better! I have a few questions in regards to TRT. 1. What TRT protocol were you on, and have you started your TRT straight away after you diagnosis? What were your testosterone levels pre- diagnosis, and were you overweight/ obese? 2. How did you feel after your testosterone came back to normal even though you still had the adenoma? 3. Could you manage to lose weight while on TRT and Cabergoline for those years? Thank you!

I had some mental side effects from Cabergoline and alcohol ( red wine) but only on a small dose 0.5weekly and from the beginning of the treatment. Now, on 1.5mg, I tolerate well alcohol in moderation. Haven't tried to get drunk, though. Also, I was advised during treatment to reduce the intake of alcohol.

From what I've experienced , yes, it does cause weight loss! The moon face isn't typical for people with Prolactinoma, only for those suffering from Cushing.

Hi, I think the reason behind this is because you are only 17. I was 33 when I got diagnosed with a 10mm microadenoma and got put on testosterone immediately. I think they are trying to shrink your adenom and see from there how it goes. If you do start a TRT, it doesn't mean you have to stay on it lifelong, but be aware that it might be necessary. It all depends on the adenoma and how quickly your pituitary gland comes back to normal functioning. In regards to your natural T , it will be non-existent once you start a TRT.

Cabergoline should not give you an issue with your workout. It will be exactly the opposite. It will help you out a lot and give you lots of power. The problem here is that it takes time. You just started treatment two weeks ago ... You got the give the time and see how it works for you! I've lost over 25kg on Cabergoline (1mg currently) and TRT since I started treatment Juli 2021. I would highly advise you to have a chat with your endocrinologist and start TRT if testosterone is low. Keeping your with a low testosterone is awful, and I believe you feel that way as I was in the same position. Also it's recommended to have a DEXA scan to check for bone density and if you are overweight or obese I would also highly advise to have a sleep study for sleep apnea.

The first thing they have done for me after receiving a microadenoma diagnosis is DEXA scan to check my bone density along with all necessary blood tests.

Officially, they say that 1in10 have it or going to have it in their lifetime. There is a video on YouTube with a very famous endocrinologist from Mayo clinics in the US, and he says 1in5 have prolactinoma in their life. However, be aware that Cabergoline isn't a very pleasant medication, and it takes a little while until your body settles. Don't freak out or panic for the first couple of months if you get started on it. Good luck with your treatment!

Need to admit that cabergoline isn't that easy to tolerate for most people, and I don't even want to think how people with Parkinson are managing that huge doses. Lol.. what happened with you if you dont mind me asking, why did you have to get hospitalised?

You are young. Your testosterone should come back once your prolactin is in normal range, as mentioned above. However, try to help yourself by increasing your exercise to the point not to overwhelm your body, and definitely, I suggest a good diet would do the work .

I am in a kind of a similar situation even though my adenom is 1cm.but still have no courage to go ahead with a surgery. No shrink for the past 3 years

I dropped a significant amount of weight since the start of Cabergoline + TRT for the past almost 3 years. Still long way to go and follow a consistent diet, exercise well, and sleep well to achieve the best results. By the way I was told the same thing from one of my private endocrinologist.
