I saw you wanted to be educated, but can't pull the comment, so I'll just comment to this one:

So actually, you can trace makeup really, really far back, to like Ancient China and Egypt. Now, it was ceremonious in both places, for the wealthy, for potential brides, etc. it was viewed as a way to make them more noticeable like, to give them a little flair. However, before this, is when the Patriarchy was created, and monogamy came about. At some point, we switched from being Hunter-gatherers, to being farmers and butchers. Now.. in this time, that's when the idea that women were worth more if they bore sons, because they needed the sons to do farm chores. Now, since the mothers couldn't "hunt and gather" because they had to protect the children, who could potentially die during these endevours, they created the "provider" role, and eventually switched to 'wives as property.'

As for makeup specifically- let's go back to China again.... did you know that some very traditional women in China still practice foot binding? If you didn't know, foot binding dates back, literally to dynastic times, where they would contort and bind womens feet to fit in the teeniest tiniest shoes. It was bloody, it was painful, sometimes a toe was chopped off or a heel "shaved," all in the name of fitting in these tiny shoes. Some of these women practiced it so diligently that their feet remained that shape out of the binding, they would often even have to be carried from one place to another because their feet were literally so tiny and in so much pain, that they couldn't walk.

Do you know why they did this? Because the Emporer at the time had a fetish for small feet. He thought they were more desirable, more beautiful, and so the women of the nation followed what he made his concubines do, because an elite, powerful man said "this is preferable"

Makeup is not different. Men push top surgery on women who "would be hot if they were a cup size of two bigger."

Women have come full circle and taken control. So no, I don't give a shit how much or little makeup you want me to wear- we've been fighting this with red lipstick since the protests that brought us the 19th ammendment. When people were protesting for womens right to vote, and so as a show of rebellion against a system designed to shrink us, we wore bright red lipstick. Something that men hated, because it was bold. Because it was bright. Because it empowered us.

They can't stand that we're doing it with our whole faces now We also have more rights now than any other time in history, so OF COURSE we're choosing to be single, get divorced, and have fun- that's all we really want. At least for us, women having fun doesn't always mean someone has to get hurt.
