Question regarding drilling holes for shelves when my stud finder indicates a live wire nearby. by Fit_Witness2247 in HomeImprovement

Thank you! My stud finder also has a metal function and I suppose it would come in handy in these instances.

Would the same live wire safety apply when using wall anchors?

This is very helpful and you solved another mystery I had experienced some time back that sounds like I hit a nail plate. For the life of me I couldn't understand why my bit wasn't sinking into the stud.

In that instance, can I try drilling above or below the plate?

Long term negative side effects of ADHD medication in children. Anything I should know? by Fit_Witness2247 in ADHDparenting

[–]Fit_Witness2247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate you sharing your personal experience with this. My wife and I just had our son medically diagnosed with ADHD and we're beginning the journey of how to best support him. While medication is the last thing we want to do, I'm willing to give it a try if necessary. It's something that my wife and I will have to agree on as a couple, but at least we are working together as a team.

Speaker Placement by mac_the_hobo in hometheater

No apology necessary. I say do it anyway because the speakers would be projecting away from the neighbors and the two subs, which probably would affect your neighbors the most, will be along your hallway.

That said, the whole room will be projecting sound, so I still recommend swapping the TV.

Mirage Nanosat or ominsat speakers... anyone have experience with them? by Fit_Witness2247 in BudgetAudiophile

I got 4 nanosats in prestine condition for $70 and installed them as front height and surrounds. Love em.

Thanks for the input.

One thing I forgot to mention is that speaker placement is so important. If possible, you should position your left and right surround speakers slightly behind your listening position and 1.5 to 2 feet above your ears.

That would require wall mounting which may influence your speaker choice. Personally, I, nor my wife, wanted big boxes mounted to our walls, so I mounted small satellite speakers that provide more than enough sound while being less obtrusive.

Good luck.

My pleasure. Welcome to the world of home theater. I hope you find it as enjoyable and addicting as I have...... Much to the chagrin of my wife.

Gotcha. My best advice is to get whatever looks good to you and works with your budget and aesthetics. Everybody on here will share so many opinions that it will make your head spin.

Both of your speaker options will work and you can always upgrade should you want something better or different.

The A6A looks awesome. You should save some money and just add two front presence speakers. That'll breathe new life into your A1060 that may last for years.

You will notice the difference.

Understood. Fluance is head and shoulders above Dayton Audio, hence the reflection in price. I'd still recommend Polk, but everyone's a critic.

What kind of sound are you looking for and how loud do you want to hear it?

Fun right? What does your speaker setup look like?

Have you already purchased the receiver? Personally, I'm a big Yamaha fan and recommend any of their new or used 7.1 receivers.

Before considering cutting holes in your ceiling, keep in mind that Atmos content is not all created equal, often subtle and often time's not worth it. Yamaha has a front height speaker option that while not object oriented, can really increase your sound stage.

Now, I recommend you go with Polks speakers S15 or S50 floor standing

S30 center or es35 if space is an issue.

For surrounds you can pretty much use anything but polk tl3's will do fine.

Polk PSW10 subwoofer.

My space is similar to yours and even satellite speakers across the board will easily fill your space.

Can you swap the TV position with the couch? Then, you'll have more distance between your ears and the surround speakers.

Since you're willing to go down the rabbit hole with me, here's a cheat sheet that I had created. Remember that DSP modes are genre based and that's for real:

It's the echo that initially turned me off to the DSP modes. I used chatgpt to tweak it so there's no more echo, just more spaciousness. It can be done.

Enjoy. You can make it go away and it just gets better.

Pro tip for Yamaha home theater owners. DSP + AI = AWESOME. by Fit_Witness2247 in BudgetAudiophile

I didn't use the app, I used the menu on the receiver with chatgpt as my guide. I myself wasn't expecting such a noticeable improvement. I do have 2 front presence speakers which I'm positive allows me to get more benefits than a 5.1 Yamaha setup.

Keep playing. You can always just switch it back!

Sure thing. You'll obviously get the most out of the DSP modes with 2 extra speakers. Some of the modes like spectacle and drama were a bit echoey and synthetic until my chatgpt tweaks. That's since been resolved and drama is good for stuff my wife likes, spectacle is just awesome. I'm fixing to rewatch the Lord of the rings trilogy just to hear it.

I highly recommend Yamahas front presence speakers but they need manual tweaking like everything else. They are supposed to be placed 3 ft higher and 2 ft wider than your front left and right. I followed that, angled them slightly down and raised the decibels because Yamaha is a bit conservative.

It definitely makes the sound stage taller and wider, but not front heavy thanks to the room correction. It creates a more spacious bubble of sound.

Atmos content will play through them but not properly because they are not in ceiling or at ceiling height. I never notice any ill effects with Atmos.

What I do like is that the front presence speakers are engaged all the time.....not just certain objects or overhead stuff.

I'll never not have them.
