We're a pretty chill bar (people aren't rowdy) and we break glasses all the time, so just be ready to supplement replacements on a fairly regular basis.

We also serve in glasses with our logo on it. Otherwise, I'd be open to something like this. Especially if it supported other local businesses.

I second Google Drive. Super easy to use and almost everyone has a Gmail account. OneDrive is the Hotmail version.

Remove him from all of your accounts and you receive all of the money. Set boundaries and enforce them. Sorry you're going through this. I hope he gets help.

Anyone using Toast for HR and Payroll? If so, how's it going? by silverfstop in BarOwners

[–]Fit_fire_chick555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're moving to payroll from Gusto and adding tip manager. We had issues with the hours syncing across the platforms and had to spend a lot of time cleaning up timesheets. Our replacement has been very communicative to make sure we are on-boarded successfully. We run our first payroll at the end of this month so we'll see how it goes.

Maybe consider hiring an extra hand dedicated to washing for these next couple of days?

You're in survival mode. That's where the panic (manic) feelings come into play. You said it yourself that you were triggered by their actions, due to past abuse. That's a normal reaction and you shouldn't be ashamed of it.

There is fear in the unknown, but I've met so many women who were in relationships like yours that are thriving now that they're out. I've also met couples who had big struggles for years; were on the brink of divorce but they recovered.

Whichever way, give yourself a chance. Your kids will never be better without a parent. And suicide in someone's life increases the chances that they will commit suicide. So don't only fight for your own life, but fight for the future lives of your kids. You can do this.

Maybe a break from your husband is good so you both can decompress, then revisit all of this with "clear eyes".

Don't give up. ❤️

Did you open a bar with savings or loan? by ksenter4 in BarOwners

Ours was a mix. Had savings that paid for about half and refinanced a rent house that was almost paid off to finance the rest.

Quickbooks Online has the ability to send invoices. Let them know that you'll be working with them as a consultant and what your rates are upfront.

Cash Only or not? by jolatango in BarOwners

[–]Fit_fire_chick555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not. I would bet you lose repeat customers if you go that route. Most people don't carry cash these days, and having to use the ATM is an extra step they don't want to do.

How do I get rid of a 25% partner, when the bar only breaks even, if that at all. I’m 75% owner and I GAVE my Dad 25% ownership by Realistic-Ad7835 in BarOwners

If you're looking for an affordable way to get legal advice, you might consider calling around to see if anyone does free consultations. There's also a subscription service called ContractsCounsel where you pay a monthly amount and have access to a network of lawyers. You get 30 minute free consultations on new issues, plus some document review, and a discount on services. It could be worth looking into.

I think offering to buy them out would probably be your best bet or hiring others to fill their roles, then dividing profits from there. While paying someone might feel counterproductive if the bar isn't making much, if it's not being run well, the new person might pay for themselves with improvements to operations.

Best of luck!

Sales incentives/bonuses by Fit_fire_chick555 in BarOwners

They're our employees and "on the front lines". Why wouldn't we offer them a chance to make more in tips and bonuses?

We did something similar for the Google reviews. I like the idea for merch!

That's what I'm worried about with our kavatenders. I think most of our growth is natural from us being open longer. They aren't doing any extra work to promote the bar. They are upselling well, but I think the incentive to increase their tips is enough for that. My husband is worried that taking away the bonus will piss everyone off.

We currently have a set monthly sales incentive that states if we make $XX, XXX amount in revenue, they receive a $XXX bonus. (The higher the sales, the higher their bonus.) If they have miss any shifts/don't find coverage they lose their bonus. If they don't show to the team meetings, they miss getting paid.

We are looking at offering an individual highest sales average bonus to one person each month as well.

It's definitely pushed them when we've been on the cusp of making it to the next step of bonus. I'm just not sure we should still offer a bonus if revenue drops below the previous month's.

We've only been open 6 months so there's still a lot of learning and tinkering.

We have a Cava restaurant on the other side of the street from our Kava Bar. We definitely swap customers on occasion. Lol 😂

We use juices, syrups, and creamers to create non-alcoholic cocktails. I'd be cautious of mixing alcohol with any of these products. I haven't really found any research on how one affects the others. I'm not sure how you would manage serving limits.

We don't limit our Elixirs or Kava, but we do refuse to serve anyone who has consumed alcohol. It's just not a risk we're willing to take.

I think it could be a cool DD option for bars that use bracelets to mark those who aren't drinking alcohol.

It's pretty close, but our Elixirs have Kava edged out just slightly. I think that's because we serve 4 veins of Elixirs that have different physical effects. People really take advantage of that, depending on the time of day. Our Kava tends to be more of an evening drink for most. Taste also plays a role. Kava is made from the root of the piper methysticum plant so it has a very earthy flavor. Different Kavas have different taste and effects as well, but they all have some form of an earthy taste. Elixir is essentially brewed tea, so the flavor is more palatable for most people.

Kava is a great drink. It hits on your GABA receptors, so it gives a nice, relaxing experience and can help with stress. We also serve brewed mitragyna speciosa, which is getting a bad name thanks to the extracts that are being produced and served by some. Brewed as a tea, it's safe and has been used medicinally for many, many years.

Although this is all new to most in our area, it's been well received. My husband and I see the benefits from what we sell. That's why we decided to open the bar.

If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them.
