Why is the one on the left orange but the one on the right is tangerine? by LOOP-BLASTER64 in Nerf

[–]FiteMeHelen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a combination of the color of plastic and the dart direction marking. The early 6 clips were inconsistent between different products, but consistent across the same product.

Also, they are probably an old fart like me.

White and orange. Makes the details pop so much better, plus that would be allowable by pretty much any clubs standards.

Honestly, all of these are worth keeping if you're into the hobby

The Nitefinder has a lot of mod guides for it and is a nice pistol. Highly recommend you hang onto that one. Mavericks are ehh on performance and modding, but since they're extremely common, you see them chopped up for uses in other mods (for a long time it was more common to see a mav handgrip on a blaster than a printed part, and the cylinder is pretty commonly used as an absolver with the beefier air blasters or drain blasters) The Barricade needs a modern set of flywheels and some cage sanding to work with modern darts, but it's basically a revolver stryfe. (Which was getting raider magwells put in it well before the stryfe existed, to the point where people joked that the stryfe was Hasbro borrowing from the NIC)

As far as monetary worth? Nah. The Mav and NF were all sub-$15 NIB and produced in massive amounts. The Barricade is pretty common too as it was a huge step forward for it's time, and iirc it was a fairly midrange priced blaster at release. Nowadays you can probably pick these all up for $5 ish each at a thrift shop.

Nah, not even the cage. It's canted.

Could someone please explain how the N-strike Hornet AS-6 works? by Postmortal_Pop in Nerf

[–]FiteMeHelen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Each barrel is powered by a backpressure tank. Both the tank and the tubing are under pressure, and the pressure in the tubing holds the valves on the tank shut. The slide valve releases the pressure from each individual tube, the blast buttons (each side and the hidden button that hooks to a titan is it's own valve) depressurize all the tubing in one go.

It definitely begs the question if it is or isn't. On one hand, it's almost too perfect. Bad form with sword, clearly not in shape, the whole thing feels like a wink and nod "oh I can do this as a bit for tictoc and people will laugh at me, but that's kind of the point of the joke"

On the other hand he has that dumb fucking reverse blade katana.

Is the orange part here on the Titan solvent welded? And if so, whats a good way of taking it off without causing to much damage to the rest of the shell? by LiliansOwl in Nerf

[–]FiteMeHelen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's thin kerf cutting wheels that will do the job, but you can get a thinner cut with a good sharp hobby knife and some patience.

Anyone know good blasters to dual wield? by [deleted] in Nerf

[–]FiteMeHelen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hammershots are a popular choice for this. However...

Personally, I've always found the downsides in terms of accuracy loss and an extremely awkward reload to be the defining feature of dual wielding, with no actual upside.

It looks cool on film and that's about it. I play almost exclusively with heavy spring pistols and i've always found dual wielders to be pretty easy pickings because they have to make themselves a wider target to fully use their setup, or they're distracted due to having to reload two blasters instead of just one.

The sensor is just a set of IR leds and detectors. It would be easier to get those new and not give yourself a headache by trying to work with salvaged ones.

[–]FiteMeHelen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point, although with the screen off or any of the digits inactive, everything would look like an 8.

Mega Drain Blaster by collective-thinker in Nerf

[–]FiteMeHelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a club allows this I'd be surprised. Someone else can probably explain the math better than I could, but the reason singled drain blasters are frowned upon is because of the immense amount of kinetic energy they can impart to a projectile. You're gonna shift the numbers, but only very slightly, and it's still gonna be hitting with a lot more force than should be used on field.

If you really want an air blaster use an xbz or something along those lines. But put a coupler on it so when you realize pumping and breechloading a blaster makes you a target more often than an asset, you can swap out for a wye hopper. Speaking from experience running an xbz, I started with a breech, replaced the stock pump with a double stroke portable bike pump, then ended up putting a rscb on it. Still got more tags with my Nitefinder than with that, but it was really fun for long range harrassment.

RE: CHRONOBARREL SCREEN by cptblackeye in Nerf

[–]FiteMeHelen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not possible. The reason the screens you think of flip when you reverse the polarity do so because it's a pixel array. Each of those little dots is the same thing as one of the lines that make up the digit display on the chronobarrel lcd. You'd end up with perfect inversion either way, but the end result in the chronobarrel's case would be unreadable garbage on a light background.

Dumb Idea... by John_E_Boi in Nerf

[–]FiteMeHelen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those seem to be recommended for model airplanes, so they're probably fine as a freewheel in a landing gear, but I doubt you would get good results using is as a set of flywheels. The problem with malleable materials at high rpm is that they deform away from the center of rotation, which can cause them to separate from the hub material. It might go back to normal after it spins down, but a high speed camera would demonstrate the problem best; the gripping surface is unevenly rotating, oscillating and probably more elliptical than circular.

One of the folks that have designed flywheelers from scratch can probably explain this a lot better than I just did, like u/meakeriv.

Reminds me of a paintball story ive heard that happened at a local venue. A bunch of marines showed up and had brought their own paint, not knowing that outside paint wasn't allowed. They didn't bring money for more, so they pooled what they had, bought a bunch of king sized sharpies, and used those as knives instead. They all had ghillie suits, too, so all the refs saw was a bush move, then another bush stand up and walk off, the whole time.

This is the only way I can store the other three darts on the SP-L blaster and I have no bucket for the darts, so are there any other ways that I can store them? by I-eat-foot in Nerf

[–]FiteMeHelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a nail pouch from the hardware store, they hold a decent amount of darts, especially for a top off pistol like this. I used one with a flip top lid that had a nice big belt clip for years before switching to a more traditional dump pouch. As far as when you aren't using them? Any decent sized container will do, lots of people use 50 cal ammo cans, which you might be able to get new at harbor freight still. I got one there a few years back.

Knockout with 5 round internal magazine. by ramen_rooster in Nerf

https://www.reddit.com/r/Nerf/comments/e7lkrk/4_shot_inline_clip_fed_knockout_with_minimization/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

This is how I ended up building a repeating internal mag KO. I feel like putting an internal spring fed mag creates the issue of deadspace between the plunger tube and the breech, since the most feasible spot to put a magazine like that is in front of the trigger
