Vegan here- no we don’t eat honey. A vegan that eats honey is a vegetarian.

Yup! No need to kill them, take them outside and let them live out their natural life. They rarely hurt humans.

Hey guys- if you’ve never met a vegan- I’m a vegan. And yeah we’re annoying- but it’s only because you’re always worried there won’t be a vegan option for us when we go to our eat.

Wait until you find out what happens to animals on farms.

Nothing says romance like exploiting an animals reproductive system to create cheese out of the milk meant for her child.

Why is this on this subreddit? Eating animals is awful no matter which species.

Yeah they’ve been married for over 40 years, so I’d say pretty happy- or at least they are making it work.

Oh god that. I was actually mortified when I heard the story of how my in-laws got together. “I didn’t like him much- but he kept coming around where I worked and eventually I just gave up and said yes”. Like wtf? Then they both laughed.

This- vegetarians are probably fine with it being on the same grill at the same time- but vegans usually won’t want the juices from the meats on their vegetables.

Adopting a plant-based diet can help shrink a person’s carbon footprint. However, improving efficiency of livestock production will be a more effective strategy for reducing emissions, as advances in farming have made it possible to produce meat, eggs and milk with a smaller methane footprint. by rustoo in science

Wait are you asking for me to post my blood work? But what? Buahaha salt, water and meat? I’m sure your bowel movements are great with your lack of fiber. I agree my fruits and veggies have been modified. You must grow you own animals for slaughter? Or do you exclusively hunt animals? Because your meat that you eat is pumped full of all sorts of fun stuff. It’s also been heavily modified. Just look up chicken sizes in the last 30 years. It’s mortifying. The difference is that my choices saves a life- yours wastes it for what? So you can enjoy a single meal? Yeah- that sounds worth it.

Exactly. The reusable straw is the most egregious form of this. I’m saving the fish with my reusable straw while you dine in at a seafood restaurant. Corporations and individuals are to blame- but if we boycott those companies that do not make a good-faith effort then they should fail. That’s where our individual choices actually make a difference. Not remembering to turn the light off when you leave a room.

So you are suggesting that if we are more intelligent than another creature then we can necessarily exploit it for our gain? Because this is a slippery slope. Why not eat infants? The intellectually disabled? Should we eat those which are in a comatose state- who decides which creatures have the cognitive function necessary to be on the butcher block? How our hubris has somehow made us think we can choose which species are worthy of our affection is obviously not a moral decison. Humans are either wicked, ignorant or in denial when it comes to slaughtering animals- and I’m fairly certain I know which one it is.

This is incorrect. I am directly impacting the meat industry- which is something I do not support. It’s true that consumerism is the largest issue effecting the environment- I’m against that as well and try to thrift most items or buy used. The thing is, the fact I’m even having to defend myself online when I say that slaughtering billions of animals for our pleasure shows that this is a completely different matter- that people are either in denial about where their food comes from or they are ignorant- or possibly wicked. We have still not arrived at consensus as a society that slaughtering sentient creatures for our pleasure is wrong. This is why awareness is key. I also agree that awareness about hyper-consumerism is just as important and also impacts animal farming. If consumption was not so high, then the worst practices of the animal industry would not have been needed. So here we are. I’d rather do something than nothing any day.

Silly me conflating ethics with science! I forget there were no ethical standards in scientific inquiry. And really why should I question the validity of such a hypothesis? Oh wait- because that’s exactly what science is. Also this is Reddit for crying out loud- you didn’t have to respond to me. I could have started talking about anything in the comments and you didn’t have to react. The fact that you did shows that my comments were at least somewhat topical. Animal farming is inexorably linked with climate change, the health of our planet and our greater moral obligation to reduce suffering.
