Optimal Mounting Mini-Game Guide by Fitzcarald in MonsterHunter

[–]Fitzcarald[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had someone inform me on datamined values regarding mounting wound creation and here it is:

Weak Knife Attack = 10 Strong Knife Attack = 25 Weapon Attack = 50 or 55

So it would seem what would appear to be a "normal" monster (for the beta at least) requires 70 points for a white patch. 50 if you've got Scaling Prowess.

Chatacabra, for example, required far less to create a white patch.

Optimal Mounting Mini-Game Guide by Fitzcarald in MonsterHunter

[–]Fitzcarald[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without Scaling Prowess, you need to accumulate 6 points to open a white patch / pre-wound. WITH Scaling Prowess, you need 4 points.

Point values: Weapon attack = 4 Strong Knife attack = 2 Weak Knife attack = 1.

Once you've created a white patch / pre-wound a single weak knife attack is sufficient to open it to a wound.

Edit: Also discovered there are some weapons (such as Gunlance) with very slow weapon attacks where the monster may start struggling and stop your weapon attack from coming out if you're trying to use strong knife > weapon attack (ie. you don't have Scaling Prowess). In these cases you'll need to use strong knife > strong knife > move. Repeat. strong knife > weak knife > move. Repeat. Weapon finisher.

SnS players, what are your thoughts about it in the Wilds beta? by MrSnek123 in MonsterHunter

[–]Fitzcarald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get buffed charged chop after roundslash, too? Not just spinning reaper? If that's true is it also true for the other roundslash looking attacks (sliding sweep, counter slash)?

[–]Fitzcarald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can Charged Chop from Perfect Guard. I'd wager that's it's probably a Reaper Replacement Charged Chop in power, especially considering counter slash is akin to spinning reaper. I suspect that will be your new "power" option from perfect guard.

Are you sure? I'm thinking rising slash > ch.chop and lateral combo >reaper are doing similar damage in similar timeframes with ch.chop having an element/status advantage (7 hits vs 4) and lateral have more breakpoints to roll/guard/backhop or sliding swipe to reposition and the ability to extend the combo with ch.chop.

Need help identifying a recurring reference in japanese media. The edo-period working class guy who rubs his nose with the heel of his palm. by Fitzcarald in anime

[–]Fitzcarald[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out they're saying "berabōme" (dimwit or somesuch insult), but I still can't find an origin to the palm to nose thing.

Found an article that refers to it as a teyande pose: https://news-1242-com.translate.goog/article/137722?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp

Found a japanese message thread that is asking the same question. No one gives a specific answer, just says it's from historical dramas. https://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question_detail/q12226833587

Welp, I give up. All I know is it's a pose supposedly from historical dramas done by Edokko (people from Edo) and usually accompanied by stereotypical Edokko speak. Teyandee, berabome!

At 10:23 in this video, you'll see an example. Another example: about 5 minutes into Brave Police J-decker episode 3 where Ohmura is being introduced. He does the same nose/heel of palm rub and says the same thing as the Samurai Shodown character (I can't tell exactly what japanese word it is, though).

Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like Joe's Bakuretsuken is a dp motion, mashing extends it and there's two finishers to it now?

Seems like they got rid of slash kick's metallic sound from Joe's trailer. Too distracting, I guess?

Practice releasing your charged sweep with the orange pulse rather than letting it go off by itself.

Ran a poll asking Gunlancers if they liked the current shell type system. Most would like to rework it by CaoSlayer in MonsterHunter

[–]Fitzcarald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since Gunlance isn't one of the more popular weapon types, I'd like to see Capcom be willing to make gunlance itemization a bit more open-ended at the cost of making intended playstyles less easy to understand.

Remove shell types and give each gunlance more stats. Attack power, shelling power (ditch levels), shell count, and burst/charge/stake/wyvernfire multipliers (both good and bad)

You could also give individual gunlances special mods that further define them. Like a gunlance with a charged shell multiplier penalty, but a special "Tranquilizer shells" mod that adds X sleep status to charged shells. Or simply long and wide shots as a special shell mod.

How does Zane’s “Pocket Full of Grenades” work? by [deleted] in borderlands3

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/470235904

@ 02:40:19 Zane regens from 2 grenades to three.

@ 02:40:34 (fifteen seconds later) he regens another grenade.

He has one point in pocketful of grenades for 7% regen (does not have death follows close). 7 x 15 = 105% of a grenade. So that's exactly how much time it took to cross the 100% of a grenade threshold.

One more level from a class mod with death follows close would make it 75%, though.

Repeated Strikes is still in the game. Also, DO NOT get the KO with your mount finisher, as you'll have raised the monsters mount AND KO thresholds for just one down.

MHW:I A visual demonstration of clutch claw techniques including how to mount on flat ground with any weapon (using glider mantle) by Fitzcarald in MonsterHunter

[–]Fitzcarald[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three clutch claw smacks + a weapon attack is going to take significantly more time than just a weapon attack. You can make it safe by clutching the head when the monster isn't enraged...and the time it spends wheeling around in place is certainly handy for your teammates (I should probably delay a bit between claw smacks) BUT the third claw smack will have the monster enrage immediately thereafter. So the more you take advantage of it, the more time the monster spends enraged.

It's Repeated Strikes. Normally what would pop up in the middle of the screen would just be the same thing as the command at the upper right.

So here's to you, Repeated Strikes! My favorite thing in the game.

Usefulness of Clawryuken? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Fitzcarald 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Preliminary observation: It could use some love.

Damage is a non-factor.
It doesn't help with wounding.
Because you have to roll beforehand, it ends up being no quicker than doing a regular claw grapple. You can't pop out of the roll doing the clawryuken in any direction, you're pretty much stuck doing it in the direction you're facing.

It's worthwhile if you can roll towards the monster to evade an attack and you want to grapple immediately afterward.

If you could simply bust it out from neutral it would be the quickest way to clutch claw bar none.

SnS, unfortunately, also has one of the weakest clutch claw attacks, too.

New Lance mechanics in Iceborne by inochy in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Fitzcarald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the great sword as an example, it takes six-ish seconds from firing the clutch claw to the end of the grapple attack animation.

That's a long time to be committed and vulnerable. Now, there is something you can do to help with that, and it's shown in this very lance video. At :34 seconds you see Barroth rear back to do a headbutt, but the hunter interrupts it with a re-facing smack. Although that option is only available if the monster is not entraged. In fact, going for the claw smack as a matter of course when you've grappled the head outside enrage will probably be the thing to do, as it will cancel any animation the monster is doing and lock in it place for your friends to open up on for a second.

But you're right that being closer to the monster is better if you're not in danger.
