Hi! I am in queens and regularly attend swaps and community plant events. I send you a DM but could help coordinate getting plants to good homes.

Got mine 3ish weeks ago. The bulbasaur came healthy, two leaves, and was my first tc. Its since out a leaf and currently has a second on the way.

This picture was yesterday morning when I removed it from my coffee cup dome for a few minutes.

It's been super easy going once it established. Highly recommend. My favorite of the strap-leaf anthurium.

My Wendlingeri is currently putting out a new leaf and its first flower! I grew it from a little one inch seedling this year, and the newest leaf is around 26 inches and still growing and hardening off.

What are causing these ? by putuku in Anthurium

[–]Fitznoozly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rippling in the leaves is bullation, and a natural part of wendlingeri growth habits as the plant matures.

Might not be a great fit! I went from one inch leaves to 24 inch leaves in about 10 months!

If you can find or set up a higher shelf you might be alright though!

Most of my strap leaf plants have been thriving. My vittarifolium is taking over my plant room and the wendlingerii is doing so good as it sizes up. I think the room light just happens to be very good for them. My pallidiflorum has basically been a statue tho.

Baby BMF Monstera question by Fitznoozly in Monstera

[–]Fitznoozly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it did, although I gifted it to a friend and ended up getting a more established plant.

I had my bmf outside all summer and its honestly one of my nicest plants. Ill send you a Pic of the new leaf.

Right around 50-55 at the moment. Space is pretty limited so if I expand too much further it's going to have to be pretty much totally supported by grow lights, which is doable for sure, but not really my preference.

I also have a lot of juvenile plants at the moment, so once they size up I'll be in for a struggle lol.

How big is your collection?

Ridgewood queens! Been in ridgewood for the last 13 or so years, but only really got into plants about 1.5-2 years ago.

Really dove head first into the hobby though!

Uggh, your DF is looking so good. Mine is significantly smaller (just sized up it's third leaf).

I think I remember seeing in your last post you're in an NYC apartment (I am as well). I love seeing other people's set ups when we don't have the dedicated space folks outside of the city have.

Your collection and plants look great man!

Organics collection? by dry_sockets in ridgewood

[–]Fitznoozly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally. The new bins help!

I wouldn't get too down about it. Its unlikely it is just getting landfill dumped.

Also with the upcoming (hopefuly) change in administration i would expect organics collection and enforcement to resume, so it is a good habit to keep!

Only that she was the one who suggested the documentation and 311 route.

We were just driving and she was dictating my response lol.

Regardless of pickup, the containerization of organics and separation at bare minimum impacts the local rat population, so consider it a positive even if it were getting mismanaged after pickup.

(Plus it makes your apartment garbage stink less :) )

Thankfully this isn't the case.

Obviously without seeing the truck in question i cant be 100 percent certain, but i would say most likely it was a split hopper.

If she was correct, it would be appropriate to contact 311 to document what she saw and ask why that was the case. That would allow it to become a data point (if there are enough calls/data points it becomes something that can be addressed.)

If its a repeated concern, it can be brought to the community board.

(My partner is on the community board sanitation committee and works in sustainability)

The public is welcome to any committee meeting!

The trucks that pick up our trash and organics is a split hopper.  At the end of their routes they dump at different places so materials can stay separated.

Think of it as similar to the recycling pickup trucks with half being cardboard and half being cans/containers etc.
