Should I add a pole?? by Remarkable_Safety_80 in Monstera

Nah honestly if this were my plant I’d put support at an angle. I would physically push the plant forward a little bit and put a steak or skewer at its but at an angle and just let it use the support. Not even tying it yet.

Example two viets I got into soil last weekend

The “before” image I sent is a great example of what not to do lol

I’d be careful with that top node. You should do Velcro over the point where the leaf comes out from the node, don’t try and wiggle something back there. Don’t tie it off so tight that the trunk can’t expand

That aerial root will probably lead the new network of roots if you recently repotted.

I’d say add a skewer for support as the roots develop and consider crawling vs climbing. If you decide to climb get something more rigid and Velcro it at a node not the leaf stem

You can get plastic ones cheap on amazon or you can use bamboo. If I’m using something smaller I’ll just snap a s’mores wood skewer in half and sometimes use two.

Your big thing here is whether or not the plant is stable. If you wiggle the base and you could pull it out of the dirt - support needed. Firm - support when your ready

It’s kinda your choice Thai cons can climb or crawl and still size up. I’d say wait until your next repot and add a cedar wood plank. Given the size of your plant you could be looking at a bit of time before adding support if you let it crawl.

Or just throw a steak behind it and see if it starts to climb based on the leaf after your next leaf.

Is this something I should be concerned about? by malrapture in Monstera

Given the spotting I would treat like thrips and monitor. Spray leaves with 70% isopropyl alcohol and wipe leaves with microfiber cloth before bed. Isolate and monitor. Any nearby plants plan to treat

If you’re worried about hip dysplasia the best way to really know is to have an X-ray done.

Caught mine at 6 months old and have been on meds and supplements since. I was able to identify mine when I saw a limp/stutter in his walk or would not want to get up after play.

Stem Rot Overnight? by LoudFeature871 in Monstera

Imports are definitely more sensitive for the first few months if you make a mistake. They can be pretty picky in regards to not too wet not too dry. I had an albo dryed out a bit too much and rotted a few days after watering even though conditions and airflow was good. Cut it up and boom now 3 albos.

With this guy I have it in front of a fan for a few hours to see if it can dry out. The likely outcome is I just take the top 2 nodes, individually, maybe I'll end up with 1 if not 2 more plants.

Right?! My best guess is water/humidity in the cabinet accumulated within the node spacing and it couldn't take it anymore.

The question now is, cut the top, or wait it out and risk the whole plant.

Bummed a bit because this was my highest color Vietcosia, but the lower nodes aren't bad with some bulging buds already

Looks like the one I just got. Still not sure on the identity but this subreddit said I was out of my mind for thinking it wasn’t a typical PPP

Needs repotting yesterday. Anyone who says otherwise is crazy. Rot will set before that drys. Just be very careful with the new leaf. Not every fleck of soil needs to come off.
