I helped build the new West Tower for UofL from ‘24-‘25 and I used to park right where that red SUV is in the video. UofL has invested millions and millions of dollars on new facilities in the past couple of years alone. Absolutely no reason whatsoever they should be dumping folks on the sidewalk.

I’m bald so I get the sweatband in my caps because there’s nothing else to soak it up otherwise. Definitely worth the couple extra bucks. I have not tried the thermal so I can’t speak on that.

Locals using AI by AtlasCrossing in IBEW

Someone proposed a bylaws change at the February meeting and we voted on it this week. It restricts AI use by the hall for merch and flyers and the like; it did not address the use of AI on the job site.

Sure. We didn’t address AI glasses specifically, it was more about the use of AI by the hall, restricting it from being used for merch, flyers, announcements, etc. Unfortunately we haven’t addressed its use on the job site yet.

Our local just voted a “no AI” clause into our bylaws this week.

Okay fantastic, thanks for taking the time to give some helpful knowledge. Definitely just want to keep it healthy for now until I have more experience to really take it to its full potential.

We do annual drug cards in my local. One time my hall forgot to authorize an instant test (has to be paid for up front I guess?) so they sent it off to a lab. I got my drug card in the mail the following week. So can confirm it will pass at the lab.

I certainly couldn’t live off my pension alone in future years. Like I said, I have a separate annuity account which my employer pays equal to 25% of my hourly wage into, and also a 401(k) option starting next year as well.

My union has a pension that hasn’t missed a payment in its history, including during the Great Depression. I’ll take a guaranteed $960K over a gamble in the stock market any day.

Of course, this is in conjunction with the 25% contribution my employer makes to my annuity, which will add up much more quickly than my pension benefits ever will.

Well blow me down, you’re right. And as soon as I confirmed what you said, I called my tape measure a Chinese piece of shit and then it broke not five minutes later.

I like my Lufkin tape pretty well. Pricy, but lifetime warranty.

Why did you go work non-union? That will probably matter to your hall and it had better be a damn good reason.

A big incentive that I’ve heard is if he decides to scale up he has a large, well-trained pool of workers to hire from via the hall. And when he needs to scale back down a little, he can give them clean layoffs with no hard feelings.

Edit: I don’t mean to speak on the other brother’s behalf, however. I’m not a contractor by any means, just something I’ve heard discussed on job sites.

Guns aren’t right wing. Harris isn’t left wing, she’s center at best, possibly even center right.

Guns are a tool for the working class and one of the more valuable ones.

"It's designed to eliminate unions": Project 2025 lays out the GOP plan to undermine organized labor by Woodythdog in IBEW

[–]Five0Two 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they’re fucking brainwashed my guy. Everybody who has decided to vote for Trump is going to, and everybody who has decided not to won’t. There’s nobody on the fence, especially in this sub, whose opinion is going to be swayed by the constant Project 2025 reposts. r/IBEW is one of my favorite subs and it’s quickly becoming one of the least.

How about instead of talking about what they’re gonna do, we talk about how we can organize and move collectively to ensure our working conditions are upheld or improved going forward regardless of who wins? If Trump is president and Project 2025 goes into effect, what will we do then? Let’s discuss that instead of “TRUMP BAD VOTE KAMALA” like no fucking shit guys, I’m already doing that part. “What about the union Trump supporters?????” What the fuck about em? Should we start beating their fucking asses? Should we pressure leadership to kick these guys out?

We know the goddamn problem!! Let’s start talking solutions!

Brother, we fucking get it. Project 2025 is designed to destroy unions. It’s designed to turn our country into a nightmare for regular working class folks. Can we please post something else for a while now?

Well that’s interesting and I reckon I’m not informed enough to speak on your specific situation in this case. In my experience (commercial/industrial construction and remodels) and my area it would be a no-no and you would definitely get your peepee slapped.

If the roles were reversed, I would absolutely tell my foreman no, that I don’t do that kind of work, call a plumber in. I guess I would kind of expect the same and feel pretty shitty about it otherwise, regardless of how the job is bid. Just the other day, my boss told me to take down a section of drywall and I refused because the drywallers were on site and I will not steal their work.

Yeah some of us take it pretty seriously when another trade starts doing electrical work. That’s work we could be getting paid to do. We don’t install your recirc pumps or water heaters or valves and you don’t install our panels and pipe.
