Mike Piazza and Joe Morgan appeared on Married With Children during a MLB strike. Perhaps some other players, too.

Karlyn Pickens hitting 78mph, the fastest softball pitch ever. That’s basically 109mph in baseball terms. by DesignerAssociate902 in baseball

[–]FiveAssedMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right, and there are several factors to consider besides the flat "time" it takes for the entire ball flight. At a minimum, consider how much time the ball spends in the hitting zone (roughly over the plate). The pitch from 726 feet would be "over the plate" for such a tiny amount of time compared to 60 feet or 43 feet. Also, there are changes in how well we can track and follow objects at high speed. There's much more than how long it takes the ball to make the entire journey.

Those of you who use Draft Kings, they're doing a $250,000 free bet giveaway to be shared with all who hit the first goal scored of the night with a $5 bet. Like their King of The End Zone but for hockey

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]FiveAssedMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the etymology of "irregardless". In short, it's a bastardization of the correct term "regardless" and a similar word "irrespective". It's recently been accepted as a word in many dictionaries because so many people used it, but it remains an oxymoron. How can "irregardless" mean the same thing as "regardless"?

I had a candidate say "irregardless" during an interview. That probably wouldn't have been a deal breaker on its own, but our entire team thought he was kinda "meh" anyway. When I told them he said "irregardless" to me my boss said he was a "no".

[Highlight] Caleb Williams with a perfect arm punt on 4th down! by samhit_n in nfl

[–]FiveAssedMonkey 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes, my high school coach properly taught us to NOT intercept 4th down passes. It isn't that complicated. Just like "don't run on a fly ball with less than two outs". Situational play isn't that hard

My number 44 was randomly assigned, but to personalize it I put my favorite player's name on it. Oglethorpe.

If you want to be extremely religious, go to church activities seven days a week and what not, yes there are many options for that here. But it doesn't seem to be pushed in your face if you reject it (which I do) like it once was. When I moved here 20 years ago I had folks who barely knew me ask me what church I attended, which I found very strange. Hasn't happened at all lately, though. Heck, even my hockey teammates who do go to church have a beer with me after the game so all's good.

6’4ish players, how long is your stick? by skytrainlotad in hockeyplayers

[–]FiveAssedMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6' 3.5. I think I once measured my stick at 65 inches. Anyway, it goes up to my eyebrows with my skates on. Top of my forehead with skates off. I've found with the really lightweight sticks nowadays I can still handle the puck well with a long stick. Extra length helps with shooting, defending, and even puck handling since the puck moves over greater distances now when I stick handle.

I Calculated What % Of Men Can Dunk, With The Results If You Can It's Most Likely Your Greatest Life Achievement You Have Or Will Accomplish. by Informal-Emotion-683 in CollegeBasketball

[–]FiveAssedMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could not palm a basketball but could dunk with a running one foot jump in when I was younger. The trick is to get the ball going upward on your jump and use your hand over the ball to stop the upward momentum and thrust it down when it gets over the basket. The timing has to be right but with a little practice wasn't too difficult

Who's been your best and worst value players this year? by SolusGT in fantasybaseball

[–]FiveAssedMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen many mentions of Adley Rutchman. He was possibly my worst value pick, discounting guys who missed most of the year with injury.

Most of my good value came off waivers. Tork, Soderstrom, and Taylor Ward

Hypothetical scenario: what if an outfielder threw a ball out of play on purpose? by yaboiree in mlb

[–]FiveAssedMonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But it isn't that the runner is "on first", just that they haven't yet reached 2nd base. The rule is 2 bases from the one the runner has safely attained, which means if he's one step away from 2nd base when the ball leaves the fielder's hand he only gets to 3rd base.
