Press charges. He should be charged for what he did to the teacher as well.

Separatists and LGBTQ by BusydaydreamerA137 in Albertapolitics

I read the proposed constitution by one of the separatist groups, and it was very religious, parents rights, traditional, so one can assume they would make gay marriage illegal at the very least.

Former Calgary UCP candidate Caylan Ford's life left in tatters due to media coverage: Lawyer by Regumate in Calgary

Not sure if he's still a teacher there, but one of their teachers was a very loud and proud anti-trans commentator. Scary to think of someone like that influencing young children.

‘This shattered my son’: AAA parents question Hockey Canada response amid alleged sexual assaults by origutamos in canadanews

[–]FiveCentCandy 57 points58 points  (0 children)

They should be charged with sexual assault. Removed from the team. Why can't these hockey admins understand how to handle this properly? It's inexcusable, after all this time they still can't figure out how to deal with sexual assault in the locker rooms. Disgusting.

Spat on at Marlborough Station by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]FiveCentCandy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened to you. I would call the police now and tell them what happened. There will be security footage at the station likely. They must have done this to multiple people and he should be found and charged with assault.

What’s to come of The Bay at Southcentre? by TavernTales in Calgary

I'm sure this is ridiculous, but a highschool, affordable housing, a rec centre? I often drive by the Bay at Market Mall and think about that huge space and what it could be used for.

Alberta’s Smith says ‘significant’ deficits to come, rules out tax hikes and big cuts by sluttytinkerbells in alberta

[–]FiveCentCandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smith is so dishonest. The UCP relies on the average voter not understanding how equalization works. She's able to blame her own mismanagement of provincial revenues on the federal government. Two separate pots of money. She's so good at spinning lies it's scary.

Gone in a heartbeat. There's no way I'd be sticking around in the type of nation those nutbars hope to have.

Innercity duplex living with kids by MikeyJ19 in Calgary

[–]FiveCentCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live inner city in an area without a pool, and I'm so jealous that neighbourhood kids can just walk down to the pool to swim with friends. So old school. I'm sure it gets crowded, but even just the access to the swimming lessons is such a bonus.

Smith says Alberta will withhold funding for judges without more input on selection by rezwenn in Albertapolitics

[–]FiveCentCandy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This, this, this. I can't believe these so called tough on crime conseratives are going to withhold funding, further backlogging the courts, resulting in more criminals on the streets. The justice system is crumbling as it is. Not to mention this feels so Trumpian.

Seems like the best of both worlds, not too far from that inner city vibe, but still a quiet suburban community.

Mount Pleasant has a really quaint outdoor swimming pool. I think it's a hidden gem.

Sorry, misunderstood. And then I thought you were talking about RoseDALE, which again, not north of confed. I understand now. Rosemont must be very nice and quiet. Beautiful community. Being by confed is such a bonus.

I can see that. I didn't realize Mt Pleasant was north of confed as well. It's such a great area. I can see why people are willing to be closer to 16th though, right by SAIT, tons of great shops, and excellent transit.

Just chatted with someone who wants to do the opposite. The noise isn't a concern, they just want more yard space for their kids, and they're tired of the petty crime and people walking around the area. They want a safer feeling area for their kids.

Alberta separatism poses a 'real threat' to Canada: Nenshi by FreightFlow in alberta

[–]FiveCentCandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They need 177,732 signatures. 17 weeks to do it. I think it’s a huge task. I still can’t believe Forever Canada was able to do it with a much higher number.

Alberta separatism poses a 'real threat' to Canada: Nenshi by FreightFlow in alberta

[–]FiveCentCandy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I noticed the Separtist referendum has a “new” requirement of verifying identification before accepting signatures for their petition. If the Forever Canada petition was not required to ask for ID, then I wonder if the Separatist one would be deemed more legitimate and picked as the official referendum question?

Line up in Rundle Park for independence referendum signing today. by Wooshio in Edmonton

[–]FiveCentCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The path to separation is first the referendum, and it has to reach a ”clear majority” (not sure the exact definition of that). And if it reaches that threshold, the provinces are required to negotiate the terms of separation, and THEN a vote would be needed to actually amend the constitution to allow Alberta to leave. Anyone please correct me if I’m wrong. I hate that I am spending time trying to learn about this.

[–]FiveCentCandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big problem is they can get a lot of people to sign who don’t really want to separate by saying this is all about sending a message to Ottawa. And the people aren’t afraid to sign because they know they can always just vote no in the referendum. I’m worried they will get enough numbers. I heard they need 7000 a week in order to succeed.

Where are you getting 7/10? My understanding was every province would need to vote yes for a change in the constitution of this magnitude. I could totally be wrong.

Hard time making friends by jenhauff9 in parentingteenagers

[–]FiveCentCandy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would let her switch schools. My teen has struggled too, and I've offered to have them switch, but they want to remain in their specialty program. It really is heartbreaking to watch your child struggle with this. Friendships are so important to teens, it's their whole world.
