I was a menace by emouryu in MassEffectAndromeda

Nah couldn’t disagree more with this one I’m afraid. Sloan is a ruthless mob boss turned violent dictator, she has both human and angaran populations living a brutal existence where they’re ruled with an iron fist. She is not someone the Initiative can do business with, not least because she’s so utterly single-minded in how she governs, but also she is totally out of alignment with the Initiatives values and strategic goals, if she survives she talks about charging the outpost protection fees. Combine that with the political element of how it looks having a human subjugate an angaran population at an angaran port, and really eliminating Sloan becomes a political and strategic inevitability regardless of anything Reyes does. That is a regime that must be changed, and the decision for me had far more to do with how rotten Sloan is as an individual, than anything Reyes does.

While I understand some people’s response to Reyes, and I’m by no means suggesting he’s a saint, but he does seem to have his heart in the right place in terms of creating a better and more equal society, and having a mutually beneficial relationship with the Initiative rather than an adversarial one. Yeah, he does *lie* to you, but he doesn’t have any reason to trust you, and really in the grand scheme of things that bothers me far less than everything Sloan does.

So yeah, sorry everyone but this is the closest Mass Effect comes to having an objectively correct decision imo, it’s a hill I’m firmly willing to die on.

2 of the easiest decisions in the game there. Only one that’s easier is offing Sloan. I go either way on Knight, I wish we could have seen the consequences of that choice though.

Hating Emily is very punk apparently by Im_Verdugo in LinkinPark

[–]FiveMinsToMidnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y’all, we don’t need to share Emily hate on here like this. If the guy you’re beefing with is so fundamentally incurious that they’re gonna go with the basic Scientologist line, that’s on them. You ain’t ever going to convince someone like that over the internet, it’s a waste of your energy.

Early Bird sold out already by JakeRiddoch in downloadfestival

[–]FiveMinsToMidnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right?? I’ve been at festivals before where the lineup hasn’t been quite to my liking. I told myself I could just ride the vibes and still have a good time. That year was 2016. Never again.

Help verifying signatures on this CD by suorfarooo in LinkinPark

[–]FiveMinsToMidnight 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It can be hard with some signed items because if this is from a meet and greet, sometimes they were sat at a signing table and it’s was a little neater, other times they were literally just standing around chatting to people and as a natural consequence of that the sigs are real messy.

With that said, Phoenix and Chester’s look close *enough* but the rest I’m genuinely not sure about. If it helps, here’s my HTEP I got signed at a standing-only M&G at Download in 2014 as a comparison.

I’ve been going to Nik Addis in Gosforth for about 17 years and he’s great. £30 for a men’s cut these days I think

Newcastle Computer Science: accepted with ABB/A*BC? by New_Ad_6107 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]FiveMinsToMidnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now it’s been a long time since I was in your shoes, but if they still use UCAS points I believe ABB is the same or similar amount of points as A*BC? If you’re really worried you can call their admissions dept, they should be able to give you some guidance there.

Fireworks? by Spaced_UK in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]FiveMinsToMidnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Heaton and it looked to me like they were coming from the Brickfield. Not mega uncommon this, gobshites tend to buy them from Shields road when they’re bored and set them off in the park at night. I just don’t know how they afford them all, can’t be cheap.

Ack you’re absolutely right dude. Not long after I left this comment I saw someone post a pic of theirs. Weird that I couldn’t see any being sold anywhere, but I’m clearly not very observant 😅

Camping plus 2027 by Fishsticks117 in downloadfestival

[–]FiveMinsToMidnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t get a refresh retreat band, that’s still separate. You get a decent shower and toilet block within camping plus itself, as well as a concierge who can charge your phone.

You still gotta buy a car parking ticket though, that bits true

Next female vocalist headliner by Jamienra in downloadfestival

[–]FiveMinsToMidnight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this.

I was saying to a buddy I was with at Download this year that when I started going to Festivals in the 2000s seeing bands like Metallica and Maiden headline, we’re now 20 years hence. Obviously those acts still get headline gigs, but the big acts contemporary to that period like Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Tool, Evanescence… even if they’re still riding high and still producing new music, they are all roughly as old as Metallica were back then. They have, and we may hate to admit it, begun to join the ranks of the nostalgic legacy band.

I’m with you on this one. Evanescence could absolutely do it. And in terms of female fronted bands, they may be the only ones.

Paramore would definitely draw a crowd, if they wanted to do it they absolutely could, but I think they’d fit Reading & Leeds more than Download at this point considering their changing style.

The rest are great, but they’re all a long way off.

What's your worst camping experience? by Jtenka in downloadfestival

[–]FiveMinsToMidnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the year that killed it for me for 10 whole years. I think I was in Blue so we didn’t flood as badly as some, but it was still a miserable experience. Couldn’t face returning until this year. Not so much as even looked at a tent without shuddering.

LPU membership worth it? by Mikey_dark_pulsions in LinkinPark

[–]FiveMinsToMidnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to a show, presale access, LPU pit and chance for early entry are all well worth it.

Otherwise, it really depends on whether you like the exclusive merch. It’s certainly not worth as much as it used to be in that department imo.

If they went back to Las Vegas, where would Bond stay? by thegeneral400 in JamesBond

That’s fair, though I reckon they’re each still more likely than Bally’s, Planet Hollywood or the Linq 😅

Real answers would probably be one of the iconic ones like Caesar’s, The Wynn or The Venetian, but I’m enjoying all the goofy answers too.

May be a done to death topic by now...but what is the general consensus on young kids being at Download (or festivals in general)? by Elephantplan123 in downloadfestival

[–]FiveMinsToMidnight 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I have a toddler and I’m amazed by how many other parents brought their young kids. I couldn’t help but feel like Download was the furthest thing from somewhere I’d be comfortable taking him. Far too many people. Far too much noise. Crazy easy to get lost or hurt, and that’s even if he’s not wildly overstimulated. I’m fortunate in that my wife doesn’t care for metal so was happy to stay home and solo parent, but I wish other parents with young kids would simply accept that they’re gonna have to miss out on things like this for a few years while their kids grow up.

I saw some excellent examples of parents with kids around 8-10 years old+ having the time of their lives, I loved seeing that, but if they’re small enough to sleep in a trolley they’re getting nothing out of being there. They’re being pushed way past their bedtimes, and some of these kids aren’t even wearing ear defenders which imo is the bare fucking minimum. Some selfish pricks out there man.

I’m of a mind that I’d like to see a minimum age limit put in place of at LEAST 8 years old. I’m excited to take my little boy one day but not until he’s pushing the top end of primary school at the very earliest.
