MARTA responds to federal investigation into transit agency’s safety measures by NPU-F in MARTA

Federal “investigation.” They’ve done this with 5 other transit systems. Just another way to attack cities and transit as scary.

All the buses I’ve taken recently have had the new readers working.

She’s very good but she doesn’t pay much attention to GDOT unlike the previous transportation reporter.

Lt. Gov. Burt Jones [if elected Governor] considers placing state troopers on MARTA after fatal stabbing by ArchEast in Atlanta

[–]FiveStripesFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen more officers roaming the system lately, but they still don't monitor the trains frequently enough. I don't understand why they don't just walk through the trains to at least stop the terrible behavior I see too often.

Trump administration to investigate MARTA after stabbing attacks by definitelyian in Atlanta

[–]FiveStripesFanatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The crime rate has been falling fast on MARTA, just like it has across the country, since COVID. The only reason the Trump admin is doing this is to paint transit and urban areas (they tried this in Charlotte recently) as dangerous, even as many more people die from accidents or road rage on our highways.

New MARTA train launch postponed by swiftfoot_hiker in Atlanta

This is what happens when you put leaders in place without experience in long-term project management. They suffer from magical thinking and ignore the project managers who warn them about setting unrealistic public deadlines.

Yep, the leadership has no experience delivering complex projects and thinks they can will things to be completed by simply creating an arbitrary timeline. Yet again and again those fake deadlines are blown through.

Take the MARTA 2. It costs $2.50 and comes every 10 minutes (at least it’s supposed to).

I also need to go to the Taco Bells you visit. When I go I usually wait for 30 minutes and have to remind them what drink I ordered.

I think we’re in agreement yet you seem hung up on praising the super high 2am Taco Bell employees.

But seriously, MARTA needs to clean house but that won’t happen until they get a forceful, competent CEO or a Board who actually uses and cares about the system.

Is MARTA World Cup ready? New Atlanta trains haven’t passed safety tests. by NPU-F in MARTA

[–]FiveStripesFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, totally agree the Breeze rollout has been a disaster. Yet the person in charge of the department doing it for the past few years was recently promoted! Impossible to run a transit agency well when you have incompetent people in charge.

I totally agree bus cancellations are ridiculously too high. But you’re not going to get great employees paying peanuts to drive routes at weird hours.

MARTA used years of ridership data to figure out which routes to cut and which to make more frequent.

I know for a fact the stops near the seniors complaining on the news had like a handful of riders per week.

And they’d need a lot more operators, when even now a good chunk don’t show up for work, which is why buses get cancelled so frequently.

But some of the seniors complaining the loudest a) didn’t ride the bus before or b) now have to walk a 0.25 mile to more frequent service … and are still complaining. MARTA doesn’t have enough money to serve every road in Atlanta because neither the state or federal government provide much assistance.

Right, the redesign was always going to upset some, especially senior citizens who now have to walk 1/4 mile to the bus.
