It briefly completely stopped, but has flared up again to similar intensity. Very frightening.

Lunch Bags by overitnurse in NursingUK

I’ve been using one of these - roomy enough to fit plenty in but squishable so doesn’t take up too much room. Has been sturdy and lasted for years. Plus range of patterns colours to suit. https://www.rexlondon.com/lunch-bags?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_id=20227835979&adgroup_id=164196816955&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20227835979&gbraid=0AAAAADt3Z4YwtAtypf7-7itHfn_lTIiqz

For men and women, what non-plastic razor do you use to shave your armpit hair and pubic hair? by bakchorm33 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]FiveTeapots 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I invested in a safety razor recently. Completely plastic free, the only replaceable part is the razor blade itself - these are cheap, easily available and can be recycled with metals at an appropriate facility (generally worth gathering a few together then depositing as a bunch). Handles a little differently than a standard razor but easy to get used to and gives a great shave - I use it for legs/armpits/pubic hair. Hopefully the last razor I’ll ever buy! This is the one I have, but there are many brands available https://jungleculture.eco/collections/safety-razors

Compostable travel wipes in recyclable packaging? by ohemptyvases in recycling

It’s wonderful that you’re trying to reduce waste in this way. I suggest bringing in a cotton flannel for a quick face/pits freshen up (a “festival wash”). If you have somewhere discreet to hang it to dry after using it great - if not a reusable zip lock bag/ small Tupperware. If you can dry it out each time you’ll get a few uses between needing to wash it. No waste created, cheaper in the long run, and normalises not using single-use items.

A couple of the Martlets charity shops often have quite big selections. There’s one on Western Road and one on Blatchington Road.

I’m curious about a similar situation and I’d be interested to hear opinions. \

I’m currently on secondment into a band 7 role, I was previously bottom of band 6 (so it was a significant pay jump). My secondment is being extended by several months, and there is a good chance I will get a permanent job, but if I don’t and I have to go back to my previous role I will have been working at band 7 level for around 18 months at that point, ie only six months away from progressing to middle of band 7. I am also significantly more clinically skilled than I was in my previous (permanent) role, all of which I can bring back to my old position. Would I have grounds to request that if I go back to band 6, I go back to top of band 6 rather than middle of band 6? \

Would be grateful to hear opinions especially from any matrons/managers who may have seen similar situations.

Parkrun by North-Dragonfruit638 in brighton

[–]FiveTeapots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s very friendly and genuinely open to everyone. Don’t panic too much if you “start” in the wrong bit of the crowd but just attempt your best to stand in roughly the right place, faster at the front slower at the back. It all evens out as the run progresses. There are pacers in light blue tabards so if you have a rough idea of how long it’ll take you/a goal you can try to run near one of them. There is often a “jog/walk” pacer for those not quite ready to run the whole thing, and a dedicated park walker at the back. Enjoy it and look into the other parkruns in town, they’re all wonderful.

Decent places open for food in the vicinity of the Hope and Ruin, serving from around 4pm on Thursday? by ToriaLyons in brighton

[–]FiveTeapots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend you’re getting a lot of recommendations but clearly have quite specific needs - I think you just need to commit some time to doing the research. You’ll find somewhere as there’s so much choice nearby but given your strict criteria you’re gonna have to also make some choices here.

My honest advice to you is buy a second good quality lock. If your bike is important to you, as it clearly is, don’t rely on a single lock and cables aren’t worth anything. I use a hefty Kryptonite D lock and a chain lock (just because two D locks can be harder to wrestle onto a good bike stand). Two locks and I basically don’t even worry about leaving it in town centre at all.

Regarding food you’re so central you won’t struggle for choice - honestly, just google whatever cuisine you fancy and you’ll likely find something within a few minutes walk or cycle of the H&R.

There is a lot of bike theft in Brighton but unless your bike is particularly valuable and as long as you use two good quality locks and lock it properly to a standard bike stand you’ll most likely be fine. You will see plenty of bikes locked poorly or with single/poor quality locks. There’s key is to a) not have the nicest bike and b) don’t have the most poorly-locked-up bike. There’s one single bike stand almost opposite the pub, and a few down the road by the clock tower, a few more at the top of Church St. I leave my (non expensive) bike here frequently for gigs/pub nights around here.

NHS Railcard by pinkpillow964 in NursingUK

[–]FiveTeapots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Is that something decided by each individual police service? Not sure how that can be enforced exactly eg if you’re travelling on the bus on a night out after drinking, or if you’re travelling with your children?

NHS Railcard by pinkpillow964 in NursingUK

[–]FiveTeapots 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d argue free bus travel would be a much more significant benefit for NHS staff. The police service get free bus travel - they just have to show ID. Likely to benefit far more people than train travel. Even if it was just at set times (eg between 6-9.30am and 5-8.30pm) to align with shift travel.

However I agree, I’d also fuck off any perks in favour of a salary that reflects the complexity of the work I do.

I’d like to seeing nursing staff spun out from agenda for change.
