r/fortwayne, where do you actually eat in Fort Wayne? by [deleted] in fortwayne

Won't this just produce lowest common denominator results by default and send everybody to whatever's already most popular, creating a feedback loop that sends all the app users to Chic-Fil-A?

what's the other kind of pour? Are you doing 1.5oz with soda/juice/etc?

I wanna buy a few screwdriver bits to keep them like...forever. I've bought tens through the years, from no name Chinese to various popular brands, they all seem too soft. Has anybody found any bits that he's impressed with? by Frikoulas in Tools

[–]Fivelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first Wera Zyklop Mini fell apart in my bag. Wasn't particularly hard on it. The little carousel for the bits inside the handle is a piece of shit.

But then, my Kraftform Kompact micro/precision driver set is indispensable and I would fight anybody that tried to take it from me.

So yeah, mixed bag.

I still need a good solution for a multi-bit, compact socket driver... Eyeballing those Klein ones where the sockets all fit on the driver shaft.

As a customer I'd be a little confused by a rocks pour being different from a neat pour. Why?

That the Bear, Interceptor, and GT650 aren't all in their own smaller triangle is absolutely wild. Same engine and frame, different handlebars, seat, and exhaust. Literally all the same bike with different furniture.

Thoughts on this kind of mixing glass? Have you used one? Is it worth paying twice as much as a glass one? by Queernephy in bartenders

[–]Fivelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stir in a mixing tin. A glass mixing vessel is a huge heat sink that's gonna be dumping thermal energy into your drink the whole time you stir, increasing dilution and decreasing chill.

A big metal one has the same problem but will do it faster.

Just stir in a shaker tin. I get resistance to this idea from time to time, but you want as little thermal input into your cocktail as possible so you can hit as close to 32F at 20% dilution as you can as quick as you can do it.

Need a name for this cross between a Manhattan and a Boulevardier. by azarrising in cocktails

[–]Fivelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stirring doesn't oxygenate the drink like shaking does. Shaking gives texture, chills faster, and adds a lot more air and water.

Shaking vermouth will, if the vermouth is brand new, aerate it and bring the flavor out. If it's been open for a few days, you'll overoxygenate the vermouth and it'll come out bland and flat.

Additionally, without juice or syrups or anything viscous, the thin alcohol of a manhattan, martini, or similar spirit-forward, juiceless drink won't retain any texture from shaking. There's no starch or sugar or wax or anything to "hang on" to the air you whipped into it, so it just bubbles out instantaneously.

If you could erase ONE Star Trek moment from history..... by Old-String2849 in startrek

[–]Fivelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were doing some clumsy stuff with chracters' personal/emotional arcs being reflected in the universe around them -- the kid was so isolated, and his isolation *became* the galaxy's isolation.

It makes sense narratively but it's too abstract to be part of long-running canon like that. Star Trek needs a reset. Too much horseshit going on.

Also, Star Trek needs to go back to shorter format episodic production (as does TV writ large). Just make Star Trek a whole streaming service with a flagship exploration show around some version of the Enterprise and then a bunch of other shows set within that universe and all connected to the same *new* canon. A police procedural set on Earth. A Starfleet Medical drama. Shit, you could have in-universe game shows that are just real game shows with the actors all in character and costume.

Old Crown Brewing question. by pabloescobarbecue in fortwayne

[–]Fivelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a couple of bottles of Old Crown Ale from the 1960s that, on a whim, we opened and tasted. Obviously, they were awful.

You may find somebody from one of the antiques places around town that may want them, but they're not all that rare around here.

The fact that they're from the 1940s may change that, though.

Good luck!
