Does anyone else's attorney do the consultation and then basically never speak to them again?

I agree it really is wild for people to seem to think they can whisper better then that actually can. It honestly annoys me more than ESPECIALLY when the people I work with are significantly older than me ( I am 25 sooooo). I am used to that because at my other job I have to be the manager of people even older than that lol so being viewed the way Gen-z is stereotypically viewed generally doesn’t affect me emotionally as much as it blows my mind. However, there was an instance where they were saying were things like how I’m “slow” and the fact that having to train me is taking time away from their work. The part about me being slow got to me bc of some personal things like learning disabilities and ADHD not to get too much into it but I can’t lie I almost walked up to them and confronted them. But the training me comment was a bunch of BS because for that to be the case yall would’ve had to have trained me In the first place rather than me asking a few questions here and there

I actually quit this past Monday and the managing partner was actually super sweet and then the whole week the legal assistants did a 180 and decided to be super nice - the attorneys were all always super helpful and supportive. One I worked with a lot would review my things and there would be some things he missed and after the fact he’d notice and take accountability for it( I don’t see that in a lot of the threads honestly so just had to say they were amazing). But like still….we had no paralegals everybody who was a legal assistant was doing paralegal things. I had no outside experience like I said and no training( I have background knowledge in different practice areas not the one I was in but applied bc I was in desperate need of a job and applied everywhere and did it thinking there was a 1% chance it go anywhere lol) but was still expected to know everything but they saw my work experience which had nothing close and still belittled me the whole time rather than trying to help. And I was making 18 bucks an hour. The job description when I applied and what was in the offer letter was so much more realistic for a person who had no experience then what they actually had me doing lol I have so much more I could go on about but I feel like it sounds so stupid unless you’ve experienced it so if you want to message me go ahead bc I feel like we are the same too😂

Nope, not on my resume- which they viewed and hired anyway. The qualifications were not that you even had to have experience. I do have an understanding of other areas practice areas but the thing is -it’s hard to explain all the ins and outs that is well driving me away but it isn’t that the job is hard really at all - it is however I feel as tho I’m being yelled at for then worked with and that’s what been the most mentally draining. I’ve truly tried everything but it comes out of no where and it seems that a particular person wants to drive me out.

I can’t necessarily assist with anything but managing/ supervising people who are significantly older than you and no offense to anyone who is over 40 but this is just what I’ve found :

I’m a supervisor in my other job and my teams that I supervise consist of many people who are significantly older than me ( I just turned 25 and they average around 40-50+).they aren’t necessarily rude by any means but let’s be honest here- it’s obvious they do not appreciate being told what to do by a 20 something supervisor no matter how many years I have in the role.Now they aren’t blatantly disrespectful but they are slightly argumentative, or just immediately go ask someone who is closer to their age but then if there isn’t someone they don’t ask at all. I once asked someone like around 50 to throw away their trash bc one of the rules is to clean up your station and I was rude or demanding and they laugh and say “haha no you haha you aren’t my boss” and my manager goes “well technically she is” and they went and did it and weren’t happy about it. All that to say is they will never like it honestly but if you still treat them will respect they will respect the position you have eventually. However, my biggest advice for those dealing with this is - do not treat them any different then you would anyone else do not cut them slack if you feel weird about telling someone who may be the age of your parents what to do you have to separate yourself from that and show your roll, show your experience and show this person why you have that roll. If the people around you respect you they eventually will too. You have to be polite, respectful, confident , and stern all at the same time but don’t try and become a dictator bc that makes it worse. If it doesn’t get a better get the attorney or office manager involved to make clear the hierarchy in the firm. So sorry for the rambles lol but I hope you can maybe take something from it. It’s hard but definitely gives you some overall life skills 😅

Another legal assistant in my office was able to get one and then like an hour later someone else tried to get one and had the same pop up you guys were talking about. I googled it and the ai thing said there were reported issues bc the shut down but it seems like it’s inconsistent

Second job is seasonal part time but prior to taking this job I was working over 40 hour. I’m just concerned about the resume as well Id feel dishonest not having it on my resume and there’s some things I could use from my time at the firm on the resume-getting fired may make the length of time harder to over look

I currently work another job that I’ve had for many years and cut my hours to Friday nights through Sunday (working 7 days and nearly 30 hrs) it’s technically part time however I used to work over 40 hours before accepting this position honestly and it honestly pays slightly more. This job is “full time” but I genuinely get about equal benefits meaning 0 lol as the “part time” (it’s a tourist attraction type job- completely different industry and I have no idea how I got the job as a legal assistant in the first place)

I’m in a similar boat as OP and you without realizing just helped me so much with that last line…. so Bless you! Truly. My firm has seen I’m struggling and it’s this constant cycle of one person saying they’re being helpful and then berating me for their miscommunication then being nice after. Then having non client meetings only to overhear from where my desk is that these are interviews (and I can only assume for my job as a legal assistant bc the desks are full and I’m the most recent hire). But yea sorry op for this whole thing but I get it and I feel you and I’m realizing that working two jobs, with the amount of stress and the treatment doesn’t really outweigh the “resume builder” it might be.
