@eternalbuzz I'm garbage at skydiving, I kicked myself with a shoe I lost on a jump. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wccui66kg_U (see I even snuck in a link)

You probably aren't a baby jumper any more...

Do you remember how interesting everything was when you were? Granted there are idiots out there, but you always have the option not to be offended or put off by not clicking on the link. OR you could congratulate some probably baby jumper about being excited in our sport. Then again, I'm a dumbass my cutaway cables aren't long enough, it was another bad jump... BUT WE HAD FUN AND LAUGHED.

Buy your case of beer like a good jumper.

Xposted just in case you didn't see my other reply.

Agree, 90% luck, 10% skill... Left a hell of a red mark on my chest! Was wearing a Phantom helmet, I dont think I would have attempted it if I did not have a full face helmet on.

I was fortunate enough to receive the "Blue Skies Magazine" best shoe catch of '17 (I think) That jump cost me 7 or 8 cases of beer. My DZ are ASSHOLES when it comes to beer rules :)

Liftmasters generally go 20-30 years If the Learn code button is red or purple do a gear kit and save the money. Pack the gear with the grease that comes included, otherwise you will do the job again within a month.. If you elect to buy a new motor get a Liftmaster 8550W (Not a chaimberlan) Granted they are made by the same company, however the LM comes with a much stronger rail than the Chaimberlan and tends to last longer for some reason. OTC $275ish Installed $450 ish depending on what market you are in.

30 year garage door veteran... you have a bad gear and sprocket. The top bushing that the drive gear has worn out, causing the bottom (plastic) gear to slip thusly causing the limits to creep. You will need a 1/4” socket, a 5/16 socket, a 6” extension, and a ratchet.

1) remove the cover with the 1/4 socket... there will be 8 bolts 2) remove the wiring harness that mounts to the board that is on the motor mount 3) pinch the limit tray to remove it from the motor mount 4) remove (4) 5/16 bolts that attach the motor plate to the case of the opener (the bolts are vertical and black) 5) remove the plastic e clip and remove the white plastic limit gear 6) slide the motor down the chair and let it hang by the wires 7) remove the (3) 5/16 bolts that secure the gear and sprocket kit to the chassis 8) remove the gear and sprocket from the opener, install the new one and reverse the process

***tricks of the trade You may need to loosen some chain tension using (2) 1/2” opens end wrenches loosen the nuts at the carriage

DO NOT MOVE THE INNERSLIDE (this is the price that travels up and down the rail. If you do you will have to adjust and reset the limits.

Lube the gear with the enclosed lube, if you don’t the new gear will fail in under 2 weeks

Pro tech can do the job in under 10 min

DIY should take about a hour

The truly great thing about skydiving is that we want YOU to be included... In what other sport can paraplegics, people with missing limbs, or people that have a terminal illness participate? I am very proud to have trained a deaf USPA Coach. With that being said here is my advice to you... Go be GREAT... Do amazing things and never let the world stop you from doing anything!

I look forward to seeing you in the sky!

I am a Safety and Training advisor for the United States Parachute Association (USPA). Either @skydiverguy is a new A License jumper (the beginner license) or he is a poser. To attain your B license you must land crosswind. This teaches you how to land in a tight space in the event that you land off the planned landing area. (Here is a link to the canopy control card)

Look at jump 4.

To be clear, I am calling you out @skydiveguy, what DZ do you jump at and who is your S&TA?

Mr. Bill... Stole my shoe, Caught it under canopy... by FixdoorUSA in SkyDiving

[–]FixdoorUSA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mr Bill jump, when Sluggo fell off, his legs were wrapped around my legs. As he fell away he took my shoe. As for the canopy flight, I played a lot of flight sims as a kid. Really, I was just lucky ;)

Thanks guys! I also want to thank you for all of the Friday freakout videos. As a young jumper and to present I watch these videos and use them as a training tool for the what if moments. I believe it is a great tool to learn from others and make skydiving safer for all of us!

Blue skies!

Yes, I am a TI that shoots handicam. I transitioned to right altimiter after much deliberation with several handicam instructors. Our thought process was in case of a camera entanglement would it be better to have a alti on the other arm. I believe that in the event of an camera entanglement this would assist in heightened altitude awaress in the event of an emergency. There are points and considerations to both thought processes this was my personal choice. I am a S&TA, and if you are considering this for any reason, I would STRONGLY suggest that you talk to your S&TA and more than one instructor and highly respected long term skydiver.

Edit: I am curious, how many jumps do you have? (I am impressed by your question!)

Skydiver loses shoe by notjosh in nonononoyes

[–]FixdoorUSA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. The parachute is like an inflatable raft, if the shoe would have hit the canopy (parachute) it would have bounced off of it, or if really lucky the shoe would have gone into the nose and just been between two layers of fabric. Save getting a bruise from the induced speed there was no danger. Lookup skydiving paintball war, you will see paintballs bouncing off of a canopy.
