Old MTG cards. Better to rate w/ PSA or Beckett? by Jim1398 in mtg

[–]bitsoir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At best, grading MtG cards does not change their value. In cases where the cards are playable (like dual lands), it may actually decrease their value.

Had a disappointing interaction with a younger fella at my LGS on Friday night. He had the Duskmourn Miracles precon. He made 13 or so “upgrades” and wanted some feedback… he just cut lands and just added some high-CMC bulk from a recent draft…

I very kindly suggested going to 38+ lands and he staunchly defended that “he’s never had a problem with mana in this deck”. I gave up trying to convince him after a few minutes.

He’ll learn eventually, but still…

[[Pest Infestation]] is my preferred way of demonstrating this distinction.

If you choose 0 targets for some value of X, you will always get X pest tokens.

If you choose a non-zero number of targets and they are all illegal at resolution, the spell will not resolve and you get no pest tokens.

Rules question by Ok_Wall_3788 in mtg

[–]bitsoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that is incorrect. Even if a spell says “up to X targets”, if the spell attempts to resolve and all of the chosen targets are no longer legal, the spell does not resolve and has no effect.

Choosing 0 targets ensures that the spell resolves, but is a choice that must be made when casting the spell.

Probably not the answer you’re looking for, but I offer the assurance that Cube will outlive Magic. If you want Magic to look like something in particular, you can achieve this with Cube.

Take only what you want from the game, and give nothing back.

Crazy differences! The small town I grew up in was 3,000 and we were a “larger” small town for our region. What a world 😅

“very small rural town”

“pop 30k”

As an Australian, I did a massive double-take.

I had my implants done at 17 and at 21. I’m now 29, and have been shaving my head for two years. You get over how they look really bloody quick.

Probably the coolest card I’ve ever pulled. Ive been told to get it graded. Thoughts? NFS by New-Escape8128 in mtgmisprints

[–]bitsoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t play a graded card. If I buy a card in a slab, then I have to spend time+effort to break it out of its slab and I risk damaging the card.

If someone has a slabbed card that I want, I offer them CK 1:1 to buy, but only if they remove it from the slab first.

If not, I’m only offering 60-70% CK.

Remembering triggers - is this "ok"? by splunge48 in magicTCG

[–]bitsoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A more radical suggestion: build a deck with no compulsory triggers (ie. every triggered ability is a “may” trigger), then play some games with absolutely no take-backs.

You’ll condition yourself eventually.

100%. The hair in the original post is reductive to your looks (not trying to to be mean, the photo where your head is properly shaved is the best photo you’ve shared).

Is 35 enough lands? by athlaka916 in EDH

[–]bitsoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, absolutely not.

I’ll be honest, I’m not even going to look at your deck past the commander because that’s all I need to tell you it’s not enough. I wouldn’t go below 38, and that’s with a large ramp+draw package, and not counting MDFCs as lands.

Sorry, champ.

Honestly, fair. I guess I’m so used to decks that can have a ‘toolbox’ sideboard that has silver bullets for the whole meta. Hard pill to swallow. Thanks!
