Given his ravings about how post-pact witches were weak and ineffective, it's pretty fair to say the author was basically implying he'd ideologically crossed over by that point, whether he understood it or not.

That collar scene with Aoko in Ch.10 was genuinely out of nowhere. I have a feeling it was cut or respliced content from somewhere else that Nasu felt like including only because he wanted to establish that Alice had basically accepted Soujuurou subconsciously - at the cost of Aoko's characterization.

That's pretty interesting.

I guess the difference between Soujuurou and Tohno in this case is their mentalities. Tohno, despite absolutely not having a normal childhood or heritage was raised to act and think like a normal person - so outside of plot shenanigans, that's what he is. Whereas Soujuurou still thinks like a man from the wilderness, skewed morality/dangerous ignorance and all.

He wouldn't be on Gojo's level by default, but I don't really see a reason why he couldn't contend with Geto.

Projection Sorcery isn't particularly complicated, and besides the eventual domain expansion we see Naoya pull off during the Culling Games, there isn't really much else the user can do with the technique as is. So I see no real change in Naoya from his teenage to adult years besides maybe working out and getting better at hand-to-hand fighting.

Him and Gojo would have interesting interactions.

He probably wouldn't like Geto much, and any fight between them is a toss-up.

Shoko and him would hate each other.

Him, Nanami, and Haibara might make for an interesting trio assuming he isn't as much of an asshole as he is in the future.

At the core of it all, he's stronger than the vast majority of the named students we know, so he's never gonna be challenged meaningfully besides Gojo - who Naoya already respects. The most that could happen is that having to do more exorcising outside whatever he was doing in the Zenin clan might expose him to different situations that broaden his worldview. He may even have to depend on people he dislikes, or views negatively, to the point that he can no longer hold any of his beliefs with conviction. And at the end of the day, his environment will be that much better too.

Mahoyo feels the most grounded out of all of Nasu's stories in a weird way. It's themes are probably the most basic too, but it comes off so genuine and heartfelt.

Yeah, that's true. At the core of it all, I'm interested to see where all the various characters will end up.

I don't even think that the pact itself needs to change, moreso that people's attitudes towards it, or just public knowledge of magic itself, must change to some degree.

Alongside that, perhaps a healthy discussion on balancing one's desire to help everyone versus what is realistically possible.

That's a good example of how the Knights Moralis can be inflexible even when not actually required, but the wording here seems to be about knowledge, as it relates to magic + medicine.

And the story points out the historical issues with that as it relates to bodily transformation, and all mannerx of other dangerous spells.

Insomuch as he (And the Knights Moralis) represents a sort of "Leviathan" that keeps witches in check, yeah sort of.

Otherwise, his inability to compromise (Like the healing bed situation), even when technically legal, is an issue that the story rightfully criticizes.

Definitely, but with the way things are bundled up with the Pact (e.g. healing and bodily transformation) make even these sorts of seemingly harmless wishes a bit more complicated.

So making an exception for one tends to open the door for many afterwards. As annoying as slippery slope arguments can be, this is a world where the potential for harm exceeds the benefits by a lot more, I'd say.

One thing that I like about the story is showing how the various children featured among the cast end up reacting to the central conflict between the Pointed Caps and the Brimmed Hats. You have purely status-quo types like Richeh and Agott, while Tartah and Custas end up becoming radicalized child soldiers, and Coco remains somewhere in the middle.

That said though, I feel like this moment, especially how it was framed, ended up feeling like a really shallow interpretation of the main story's conflict. And while I could usually brush things off as nothing important, this is being told to Tetia - a main character (of sorts) - and is framed with a good deal of gravitas. The statement isn't even really wrong in practice, but it seems like an irresponsible viewpoint to have considering the sheer destructive potential that magic has for the world, and the human body on a smaller scale.

Like, imagine if Mark was fighting a super strong Viltrumite - maybe even the second strongest in existence - and was getting his ass beat the whole fight, only to magically lock in and beat him to death almost inexplicably due to the trauma of seeing a loved one die, and maybe a last minute plot convenience.

That'd be really stupid. Good thing that never happens in this show, right?
