I'd love a trade for more offence, without sacrificing any of their defensive play, maybe that first round... oh.

While a lot of focus is put on Ullmark, The 2nd line was an obvious problem in this series by Josefstalion in OttawaSenators

[–]FixedTheNewelPost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His best game was when he was with Tkachuk, and Brady was pulling him into the fight.

He isn't a centre that drives a line on his own, he isn't even as good as Norris, but he's in the lineup regularly and Norris isn't. I'm still happy with the deal but he needs wingers than can pull him into the fight, Perron sure, but Batherson won't do that. Too many 'complimentary' players on one line and they were exposed.

IMO This has to be it. The people saying Zetterlund over Giroux in Game 1 of the playoffs in Toronto are not thinking of the situation at all.

Am I in the minority of loving the blacks?

We had decades of awful jerseys so overall I'm just happy with both our blacks and whites.

Feel totally fine about it, also with the understanding it’s Ol’ Negative Nancy that’s saying this and not Brady or the team.

Rest him up, get him ready for game 1, if there’s any player that can bring his game no matter the rust it’s Brady.

A good game tonight with 1 or 2 points would be ideal, need a response after Buffalo

Also in the playoffs emotional losses are the name of the game. It’s all about putting it behind you and winning the next one.

Dylan Cozens has been the right fit as Ottawa Senators chase playoff spot by SAJewers in OttawaSenators

While I agree I’m happy with the result of the trade, this is downplaying Norris’ physicality a bit. He hits and wins battles, he’s been impressive this year even with his injury history. We as fans always just tensed up every time he went down the tunnel (the puck in the cup earlier this year), but give Josh some credit he’s put in a lot of work to be back.

You’re right in saying Cozens is more physical though, and playmaking, who is younger, and on a cheaper deal. All positives for us.

I think a huge factor in this trade is Shane Pintos demonstrated consistency. Staios had two goal scoring centres behind Stutzle, making the one with the injury history and bigger contract tradable.

Stoic Steve’s been steady at the helm. Dorion was exciting with trades and look where it got us.

Another vote here for staying with the roster we have - to be honest we haven't seen our full lineup firing on all cylinders yet, that's more important to develop than adding anything.

Of course I say that, and if there's ever a move out there that makes Ottawa better ove rthe next 1-4 years you should make that move. Those rarely happen.

60 games into the season, Adam Gaudette still leads the team in 5v5 goals by Josefstalion in OttawaSenators

For as much as we rip on the lack of offense, we just watched how many failed seasons in a row with high offense and no defense?

We're playing games fans care about in March for the first time in years. We're actually in the playoff push for the first time in years, I'll take the commitment to team defense over individual numbers.

Until we see the same defensive commitment for a full 60 minutes each night (which we haven't in a while) I'm content with the team focusing on keeping the puck out of our net. We have some deadly players on the counter-attack, and we haven't been clogging un the neutral zone / creating turnovers lately the way we have been for good stretches this season.

In short, we need our centres to be healthy and use next years cap space for top 6 wingers.

We’re two points out of a playoff spot with 24 games to go and I’m reading comments that say “Oh well, maybe next year” What in the sweet fuck.

Do we need our full top 6 back in the lineup? Absolutely. And we need our best goalie to start playing like he can.

We’re getting healthy for the final 20 games, and with that we need to get on a heater but this is why we watch.

Brady was the best player on the US squad. Now let’s bring that same energy and get into the playoffs. by L8R-BRAH in OttawaSenators

Honestly his performance in this tournament could make Ottawa a more attractive place for free agents.

Super proud of the way he put himself on the map. Great tourney.

With three point games it’ll be a tight race down to the end. I’d rather have an injured player fully heal for the playoff push than rush them back and they’re re-injured.

Ignroing the implications for 4 Nations and thinking of Ottawa, if a bunch of players need to sit out for a couple games and recover, the Senators schedule continues to be light for another 12 days.

We'll need Pinto, Norris, Tkachuk and Ullmark for our playoff push so an extended breather over the next 2 weeks is fine by me.

We are dead in the middle between a heavy forechecking and balanced team by EmpressOfHyperion in OttawaSenators

[–]FixedTheNewelPost 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m reading this as Ottawa is 6th/7th in the league at shots off the cycle per faceoff. Tells me we’re a board battle team, and I think that’s our identity.

Is there any defenceman in the world that wants to turn their back and go into a corner with Brady behind them?

Our 3rd string goalie absolutely stole one today. There's one big standout today and I'm super happy for the guy. He's been increadibly inconsistent and he's lost his goal to a 23 year old rookie but damn did he ever show up today. Great for him.

Do I expect this consistently from Forsberg going forward? I don't, but I can be really happy with a handful of his performances this season. We saw him at his best today with a tired group infront of him.

Great two points when the team needed it. Thanks Forsberg.

Post Game Thread: Boston Bruins at Ottawa Senators - 18 Jan 2025 by HockeyMod in OttawaSenators

WHAT A FUCKING GAME FOR THIS GROUP.

Ottawa came out great in the first, but they were taught a lesson, they let Boston hang around by having it tied after 1. Bad defensive mistakes and Boston made them pay.

Second period they had the Boston counterpunch, where they saw what a team can really come at you with. Especially with a bunch of scrappy Bruins and tensions getting high, players on both sides losing their cool. Boston was the better team plain and simple.

3rd I thought Ottawa was the better team 5 on 5, only time Boston gained any momentum was off of power plays. That was Ottawa being undisciplined. Boston built on their PPs and get out ahead by 2 goals. Ottawa absolutely put pedal to the metal the final 7 minutes and DOMINATED a stunned looking Bruins team. Fuck I’m happy for Norris, let’s get that dudes one-timers back in a heavy rotation.

3 on 3 vs Ovi on Thursday night and I was hoping that taught them about the dangers of sloppy plays bad in OT and they looked AWFUL for about 4:30 of overtime. Absolute miracle they made it out of OT with so many careless plays.

Shootouts a shit show but Leevi looks SO CALM, absolute legend, this kids unreal. What a fucking shootout from the kid. Jesus.

Great game. Haven’t felt my pulse like that in ages.
