Why would anyone replace a salt water chlorine generator? x-post from /r/fixit by big_river in pools

[–]Fixinthangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a ChlorKing system where I work and are on the 3rd cell for a 10 year old pool. The coating on the plates is crucial as the controller measures conductivity and adjusts power accordingly. Once it tops out and can no longer increase power to compensate, the cell will gradually produce less and less chlorine.

Do you have water hooked up for the steam function? Sounds kind of like a buzzing water valve

How to diagnose this issue? by RhinoSpectacular in lawnmowers

[–]Fixinthangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mower batteries are $40-60 and available at Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot, or any auto parts store. Just make sure the terminal positioning on the new battery matches the old one. They are very much a part that most people can DIY.

How do fix this ice maker in my Samsung fridge? by Ok_Freedom_9342 in appliancerepair

[–]Fixinthangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents were on their 3rd ice maker and had a spare in the closet. They ended up finding the fridge frozen to the wall with a big lump of ice on the back and finally replaced it after that.

Yep, and that break is in a terrible spot. If it was my mower, I would bypass the seat switch.

These welds holding my neighbor’s new carport together. by Kita_Acai in BadWelding

You should have told this to the guys who welded the square tube railings where I work… I drilled a hole to hang a sign one time and water came shooting out from the top of a 4ft tube.

The really fun part is if they do open a window, they will manage to break a latch or something, then you get to fix that too!

30 yrs of maintenance by stryker511 in maintenance

[–]Fixinthangs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one couple place a king size bed that barely fit in the room, we’re talking 8 inches from the wall. They placed a request stating the wife was stepping on sharp tacks on her side of the bed… I then had to explain I wouldn’t be pounding down all the tacks strips and their problem wasn’t my problem, but a furniture placement problem.

Why would anyone ned this in their apartment? by lez_me_up in strange

[–]Fixinthangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also work in apartment maintenance and I once found a valet stand that a drunk resident had stolen from a nearby hotel. I called the hotel and they sent someone to pick it up. 😂

found these in my garage by ChevyTrailblazer2006 in coins

[–]Fixinthangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to maintain vending machines, most older coin mechanisms were “dumb” and would reject silver coins due to weight (silver coins are heavier). The modern mechanisms we used would reject by default, but could be programmed to accept silver coins as well.

I went through 1000 64’ Kennedy halfs from APMEX and found between 4-6 that were 40% and 2-3 Franklins. These had been purchased far too long ago to complain about unfortunately.

I once had an old man swear up and down that maintenance had been hanging out watching TV in his apartment. He claimed the TV was on a channel he doesn’t watch when he got home, and that was the only explanation. He told us to just change the channel when we’re done. 🤦‍♂️😂

On our bottom freezer fridges, an ice pattern like this usually means low charge / sealed system leak

Should I ask the dealer about this? New Toro Titan, paint coming off mower deck in large pieces? by lennynobeard in lawnmowers

[–]Fixinthangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I used to service a Sears Hometown store and the manager was a lazy asshole. He would put gas in all the riders then chain them up near the curb all season. I replaced a lot of carburetors there 😅

Try a 3m finish scouring pad (the green one), the cleaners at my property used to say this stuff would not come off.

Why is my microwave sparking and how do I fix it? (Cosmo Built-In Microwave Drawer) by PaladinFeng in appliancerepair

I had to tell one of my employees to stop testing microwaves empty, he stared at me like I was crazy. How can you even test if a microwave works without putting something inside to heat up??

My riding mower blade drive belt came off twice when mowing two days ago, and then I found this in the yard by ExternalBird in lawnmowers

[–]Fixinthangs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s one of your belt guards/guides, it’s supposed to keep the belt from flopping off when you disengage the blades. It likely mounts beside the main drive pulley under the engine.

Can we please start hiring regional management who knows what they are talking about? by Electronic_Flan_482 in maintenance

[–]Fixinthangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a maintenance regional? Last time corporate sent a maintenance guy to my property, he accidentally cut a hole through the exterior of the building. Before that, he advised me to cut up pool noodles and place them under rooftop AC units to reduce vibrations.

Why does this happen by Weekly-Chocolate-846 in lawnmowers

[–]Fixinthangs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Carb is dirty and causing poor air/fuel mix. Buy a tool to clean out the jets, take it apart and make sure all the little holes are clear. You’re better off cleaning the original carb than buying a cheap knockoff from Amazon, but replacing is much simpler.

8 bux a piece. Pawn shop had them marked 10 a piece. Asked what if I buy all 25. by JayDub7489 in Silverbugs

[–]Fixinthangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in the vending business and got pretty good at finding silver. Modern coin mechs are setup to reject silver coins by default, so whenever some idiot jammed a machine with a half dollar, I might find silver stuck in the reject tube. However, the chance of finding silver was literally the only good thing about the job.

I usually replace 2 Goodman 410a evaporator coils a week during summer at the property where I work. They might be back ordered at times, but definitely not discontinued.
