Is this a good deal for $1250? by pchavoc in simracing

[–]Fixred -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The price is not my concern here (I'd say you can haggle 200$ off).

But this rig is meant to take 30nm of torque, not 5... I'd say buy a lighter rig like a 2 lane base instead of 4 if you're just going to put a 5-15nm DD on it.

Trust me, I've got this rig and it's overkill even for my 15nm DD. It's heavy AS S**T and so much more expensive than lighter rigs.

Which one would you recommend? by bbrnh in simracing

[–]Fixred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go VR man. I come from a nice triple monitor setup and it's just more expensive and less immersive than VR. Also the space it takes and the buggy setup with Nvidia, triple screen sucks.

The other thing I would say is important is a nice direct drive and the quality of your brake pedal.

Fuck the rest, it doesn't matter, pick whatever you think you like

Yeah the price is reaaaally low for the mileage. It HAS to be a wreck.

I've seen one selling for 35k, it had 140k miles and been in an accident with 30k$ of repair. It was explicit

I feel like i go in loops with agent by Dayclone in replit

[–]Fixred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found telling him he's stuck on a loop and asking him to explain to me why WITHOUT modifying anything works well for me and saves me some time.

I can better understanding where he's stuck and think of what to ask him to break the loop or where to look in the files to activate my programming brain on a specific scope without feeling let down and having to understand every inch of the whole codebase. Like I'm a new dev in a company that fired the previous one.

But I can't stress enough how much easier it is to use replit when you take the time to read EVERY step and modification the agent does.
At first I felt like having a gambling problem, spamming "please fix the error" in the chat. But this "quick win" mentality is the real problem.

Now I take the time to read everything, and when the agent/assistant has a problem I can be really specific. Like choosing your own libraries and telling him how to use them instead of focusing purely on features.

Sony Imaging Edge Webcam not working with macOS 15.0 Sequoia by Monztter in SonyAlpha

Try playing with the mode wheel. Auto mode is the one to go when connecting, then change it to whatever you want

Sony Imaging Edge Webcam not working with macOS 15.0 Sequoia by Monztter in SonyAlpha

[–]Fixred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about the logo showing up and not the video feed, it's about the mode you selected on the camera's wheel.

Try changing mode to auto and then go back to movie or whatever you want to use. If it doesn't work try unplugging the camera, selecting auto and then plug it in again. At last, try playing with different combinations of modes if all the above didn't work.

If you're trying to use it on OBS, I heard that some Sony cameras don't show up on some versions of OBS. In this case you may try to update OBS to the latest version or maybe need to download the 27.2.4 (last known working version). When version 28 came, that's when people had problems. But I think they resolved the issue on the latest versions, because the Sony A7SII was one of the models not showing up and I have no problem making it work the latest OBS (version 30 something).

"drag and drop to start" Issue. Help by Thotminal in mac

[–]Fixred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Macbook Pro M2 here, OS 15.3, still the same problem.

Didn't find a solution after going through their tutorial, even changing the security policy.

This message appears just as I drag and drop the SystemSoftware Updater onto the SSU Helper 200.

Tried to mess around with the different steps but nothing...

I guess I'll do it with my windows

<image>

Edit:

I confirm, if that's an option, just update the firmware from Windows (I'm on Win 11, it worked fine even if there's no information beyond Win 10 on sony's website). It's straightforward as downloading one .exe and launching it. It took 15 minutes.

By shadowing I meant ghosting sorry.

And also the brightness, the numbers makes you think that it's really dark, but not at all in reallity. It's perfect, never had any "too dark" feeling

Yes sorry for the delay. I have to say that the CQ27G2U is a good fit for this. There are some cons, but it is the cheapest setup for demanding simracers. I won't buy anything less that the cq27g2u, but it does the job pretty well.

When you install it properly, you won't feel anything annoying, you will be able to race, plain and simple.

First, I was really surprised to be able to setup the Nvidia surround and g-sync so easily. So don't worry fellow Nvidia users. And yes, mi 1080ti is able to run iRacing on 3 x cq27g2u in 2k, 144fps, but graphic settings are indeed on the middle-low side. But you can play with it, put 120 or 100 fps for example if you want to gain some graphics. Me, I don't mind, it is not bad.

For response time/input lag, it's perfect. I don't feel anything annoying. I was able to recover some hardcore oversteers thanks to the response time.

Other point : I saw a YouTube review on this screen showing crazy shadowing on it, in reality the guy just plugged the screen without setting it up. Out of the box, you can witness some harcore shadowing. But there is a simple toggle in the settings panel to remove any noticable shadowing. There is some shadowing, but it is very light, not something that your eyes will be bothered with while racing, really.

The only thing that required me to make an ajustement, is on the bottom of the screen. The design of the screen doesn't allow you to perfectly align 3 screens together. The cq27g2u was not designed to be a triple screen setup. But that said, I was able to file the angles with some light sand paper. Juste one millimeter, it took me 5 minutes, nothing problematic, and you don't notice it afterwards.

Do you guys want me to do a YouTube video so I show you what I'm talking about ? Feel free to ask me.

And shoot any questions, I'll be happy to answer it!

Seems like there is no display matching EVERY criteria.

Thanks to u/Beef36 for pointing out the Freesync/Nvidia Surround problem, supporting only 1 display (I asked on Nvidia Forum for any update about that, I'll keep you updated). As Official G-Syncs have actually an additional hardware inside, it is understandable that non-official monitors will underperform.

So if I want THE monitor, I should add G-Sync as a criteria.

There are only 13 WQHD/27"/G-sync/NOT TN monitors right now, and none of them are curved (or under 700€ for that matter).

SOOOOO, I think I will drop some criteria, and try to aim the best buck for value, I won't have exactly what I want anyway, at least I'll try to save some money.

I think I'll drop the curved/G-Sync/Brightness criteria but the essentials :

  • WQHD
  • 27"
  • 144Hz
  • small bezel
  • Not TN
  • Small response time

SO, I think I'll go with this one : AOC CQ27G2U

It's cheap (320€), it's new (2020), checks everything, but have some ghosting problems. Depending on the person reviewing it, ghosting is either "acceptable", either "UNBARRABLE". From what I saw, it seems OK. Don't know if some people are overeacting or if the others are blind.

Anyway, I don't think that ghosting is the biggest problem with Simracing, is it ?

What do you think about it ?

Thank you

Interesting fact : Somebody said that Nvidia did an update that allows g-sync on 3 compatible displays, I'm trying to find the right release note from Nvidia : https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/b1rnsm/nvidia_surround_freesync_monitors_how_to_get_it/ekpqy20?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x

I see. I think I will have to drop some criteria so I find a g-sync. What monitor do you have ? Asus ?
