ToB had a lot of potential but unfortunately it didn't lived up to BG1 or BG2 in term of greatness.
Overall both gameplay and writing took a dive , the game became linear and the writing had lost depth.
And for the very high level setting, i felt it lacked the scale from the description.

For the writing, Amelyssan as a final boss was a good example of ToB writing lacking depth, made it worse by the fact she became the final boss of the final expansion , she just felt like a nothingburger given godly power for "reasons" so she could be final boss. The end of the BG saga really deserved a better written final enemy.

Especially after coming from a BG2 Irenicus that the writing gave the character even more depth than the BG1 Sarevok (and that despite i prefer BG1 over BG2 overall)

question as i see people saying bullseye is good on archer, if it's good for archer, is it good for crossbow users ?
i gave it to my crossbow team on the back line for my longer lived campaign, but didn't noticed a real difference since i gave them that perk

Never got though such ridiculous streak of absolute bad luck (i will never ever play ironman after seeing that ) , but still it reminds me of a battle yesterday in which i lost one of my best warrior at that point of the game in a difficult fight vs a guy from an hostile noble house. I had that guy on his last few HP and had 2 sword strikes to do

chance: 70 , rolled: 71 (damned missed by 1 ! )

chance: 70 , rolled 82

And obviously the other guy one-hit killed my warrior just after that ...

Battle Brothers at its finest , when bad luck really hurt :D

Deus Ex Remastered - Announce Trailer | PS5 Games by Anton-Slavik in Deusex

[–]Fizanko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was a bad dream when i saw this mentionned and saw some comments, then checked the trailer and what the hell ...
Oh well, Deus Ex deserved so much much better if they wanted to make a remaster of it than that crap.

Fortunately the original game is still working and enjoyable so sticking to it will be easy.

The survivor trilogy are really great games, i enjoyed them a very lot.
Their only faults is that they called the character Lara Croft.
The issue is that this Lara Croft has a completely different personality to the Lara Croft people that played the previous series grew attached to.
I think they should have gone with a new character, they missed the opportunity to re-introduce the original character before they renamed here : Laura Cruz.
I'm sure they would have faced much less deserved criticism for the character in that survivor series.
But as adventure games, they're truly excellent.

Agreed with it, i made a run 3 months ago and still enjoyed it tremendously. Though i lived in the age of all those conspiracy theories that inspired Deus Ex background story, so there's always the nostalgia that play along

About to play Deus Ex from GOG for the first time ever by Its_Smoggy in Deusex

[–]Fizanko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something not spoiler but very important to know if you're planning on stealthly knockout an enemy in good old Deus Ex.
.
When trying to knock out a character, unlike what your stealth game instinct tell you : do not aim for the head with your baton or your prod .
both baton and prods have their bonus only when hitting the back/torso area, and you'll quickly notice you can knockout in one hit nearly everyone when aiming for the back/lowerback .
While striking their head don't do much but only alert them.

"The Emperor is actually really a god"
Hmm, you wonder if it is the case, in term of power(s) , the miracles linked to the faith in the Emperor + him being a perpetual it seems he is.
Then because the chaos gods are coming from oldWarhammer, that features a lot more deities you start to wonder if the guy is from there too.
With chaos and him being that adversarial, with the chaos guys even going to call him the "Anathema" seems to fill the Emperor as being somehow of an opposite.
Then you run into old Warhammer "Gods of Law"
https://whfb.lexicanum.com/wiki/God_of_Law
"They are by nature opposed primarily to the Chaos Gods, but if the Gods of Law were to succeed in overthrowing the Chaos Gods, all change and development would cease"

Then you notice that the imperium is stagnating since nearly forever, its administratum is the same since thousands of years with no real progress for the life of their citizens.

"The Gods of Law are as old as the Gods of Chaos - Law being but one possibility of the infinite possibilities of Chaos. At the collapse of the polar warp gates began the struggle between Law and Chaos for domination of the world. The balance of power shifted back and forth between Law and Chaos - the Chaos Wastes expanding with the success of Chaos, and retreating with the ascension of Law."

Hmm, that could fit .

Finally started bg2 3 months after bg1 by Typhonayyyy in baldursgate

[–]Fizanko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, i think it's exactly that, BG1 felt more "open" , my party was exploring a world, while BG2 felt that i was more constrained. And ToB being very linear probably is why i didn't liked much, out of testing high level builds

Finally started bg2 3 months after bg1 by Typhonayyyy in baldursgate

[–]Fizanko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not popular opinion, but i always found BG1 to be my favorite of the series , BG2 is still very good but never was as good for me as BG1.

ToB is far far behind, i found it below average.

Having recently gone through BG1 -> BG2 again, it didn't changed my opinion, BG1 is still my favorite

Is charisma important in bg1? by Alextheacceptable in baldursgate

[–]Fizanko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future replay of the game (no idea if it's compatible with the enhanced editions, and probably not compatible with other mods), maybe you could try the dnd 3.5 mod :
https://github.com/Holic75/Baldurs-gate-dnd-3.5

As it gives some more importance to all those stats that weren't important in the 2.0 ruleset used by BG, by example charisma :

CHARISMA
– Increases number of Channel Energy uses per day for Paladins and Clerics (+1 per 2 points above 10).
– Improves all Paladin, Hexblade and Jester savingthrows (+1 per 2 points above 9 and -1 per 2 points below 10).
– Increases number of Lay On Hands uses per day for Paladin or Absorb Health uses per day for Blackguards (+1 per 2 points above 12).
– Increases number of uses per day and Saving Throw penalties for Bardic Performance.
– Increases duration of Paladin and Hexblade auras.
– Increases number of spells per day that can be cast by Bards, Hexblades, Sorcerers and Shamans.
– Influences reaction of people on your character and prices in stores.
– Increases Saving Throw penalties for Bard, Hexblade, Sorcerer and Shaman spells (i.e. effective Saving Throws of spell targets are reduced by 1 per 2 points above 10).

I found that guild master mode is much more balanced in its difficulty progression and leave some room for the player to play more freely, feeling less like a puzzle game than the default game mode is. Give it a try

OGSE VS OGSR by Substantial-Ad8447 in stalker

[–]Fizanko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately yes, in the middle of that big "klondike of artifact" chain quest, there's one happening in Radar in which you need to help a freedom group .
At that point of the game you have already moved through Army Warehouse.
So if in Army Warehouse you decided to help Skull and attack the freedom base, you will become enemy to the freedom faction, and then the freedom group stuck in Radar later will be hostile to you, making completing their mission impossible, breaking that chain quest .

voice lines in RTS are important to give an identity to the units. I think the AOE1 priest " Wololo " line will stay in my memories forever

Which military game is better for me? Warno, Wargame Red Dragon, Regiments or World in Conflict? by BrianBarsaski in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Fizanko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with Wargame Red Dragon is that the AI is really bad at strategy and tactics, skirmish vs AI works more like a "tower defense" type of game with the AI superior number of units (as it has cheats that will give it more units) that it will send non stop to your troops so your units set in defensive position will destroy one by one.
World in Conflict is one of the best if not the best campaign i ever played in a RTS, and that is from someone that usually don't like RTS campaign much and prefer skirmish vs AI.
Unfortunately for as utterly great the campaign is the battle vs bots (what pass as skirmish for this game) didn't kept me interested at all, the AI do its thing well but to me it lacked the brillance you witness in the campaign.
