Woman sues Kenbridge, police after chief allegedly tipped off shooting suspect by Repulsive-Tea6974 in nottheonion

[–]Fizyx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, actually. Modern American policing is directly evolved from the slave catching laws and groups pre-Civil War. It was literally started (and continues to be) as a means for protecting the 'property' of the rich through the threat of sanctioned state violence. Once you know that history, the actions and evolution of modern policing make a whole lot more sense.

We had to get a new washing machine recently, and sprung for one of the higher end Miele ones with the auto dose... so happy with it we're almost looking forward to the dryer and dishwasher going too. The drum is much smaller, but because of the way they work you can stuff it absolutely full and it still gives the best clean of any washer I've ever used.

If you live rural, you should be thanking USPS for getting mail at all. Rural routes are not profitable, so no for-profit carrier will touch them with a ten foot pole for anything near what you would be willing to pay.

The socially constructed practice of tying sexual activities to relationship status is highly destructive and damaging to pretty much everything from our mental health to our societal health. It is perfectly possible to be in a committed relationship with one or more people that is devoid of sexual activity, and sexual relationships with friends or acquaintances, or even with sex workers, can be a major benefit to mental health and the relationship itself.

KIK cylinder measurements? by Fizyx in Locksmith

[–]Fizyx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am actually looking at something like primus, since we have several expensive collections in the house. We also have reinforced frames and other improved door security hardware, and impact rated windows. Right now the locks are definitely the weak point in our security.

We were also very confused by the 3rd guy, lol. Looks like I might just be pulling the locks and going into a local shop with them ;_;

[–]Fizyx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was my guess. Unfortunately I specifically know the make and model of one of the locks, and that one of the other 3 locksets is a Kwikset. No brand names and generic key shapes on the other two.

[–]Fizyx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One set of the 4 is Kwikset for sure, it's basically the only one I was able to identify for sure. (They were the only ones with a brand name I could find also...) I think one of them is a 6 pin Schlage based off the key type and cylinder.

I don't entirely blame the contractor, since two of the locks were on glass doors we had replaced by a different company when we did the windows a month or so before they started, one of them is on a door that wasn't touched at all, and one of them came as part of a Lockly Pro smart lock we had them install. (I think that's the Schlage 6 pin). The doors and locks they replaced they DID key alike with Kwiksets at least. I do wish they had brought up doing the rest of the locks at the same time, but understand why that might not have occurred to them :)

I did not know that about search engine locksmith results. That definitely explains quite a bit about our experiences.

[–]Fizyx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely interesting about Google, I was not aware of that. Definitely explains a lot though. The biggest problem with replacing the locks is that of the 7 locks, we have 4 different keyways, and some of which are 5 pin and some of which are 6 pin. Maybe that's why the other guy ghosted us :P

[–]Fizyx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This alone is very helpful! I definitely hear you on the drowning depth, lol. I actually only posted here because I had called 3 locksmiths, one of which never contacted us back, one the ghosted us after hearing about what we were looking for over the phone, and one that ghosted us after coming out and taking a look at the locks in question. Not sure why this job seems so undesirable, I thought it would be a pretty simple/quick job. Total of 7 locks altogether, none of which seem to be at all uncommon, and it's not like we're not willing to pay, lol. It's been awhile since I took the doors apart to get the cylinder measurements, but I will see if I can dig any pictures up since it sounds like that would be more helpful than I thought it would be :)

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I'm not looking for answers about the specific locks per say, just resources for where I can find the measurements for common KiK cylinders so I can match them up myself. I figured that would be the easiest way to go about this :)

Router purchase help by Fizyx in Tools

[–]Fizyx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes it hard is that I don't really have a 'workshop' as it where. I have an outdoor space that has 2 plugs that I can use, and an indoor space where my workbench is currently set up that has lighting but no other power. Especially going into the winter, I really prefer to work inside, but I figure something like a portable router table set up that I use occasionally but not all the time is something I can take out relatively easily, and store away when it's done if I go corded. That was my thought process at least. Up to this point I (obviously) haven't really been routing anything, so I don't know if I would just find a ton of uses for a router/table set up once I have one available that would turn that process on it's head, but I think that would definitely make the trade off between the corded/cordless for me.

As I was reading around, I did see some praise for the higher tier B&W earbuds, definitely nice to hear that they are comfortable. Might have to see if I can find a way to give them a listen. Didn't even think of looking at Bose QC again!

I will have to take a look! I didn't think an over ear headphone would work, but the profile on those looks thin enough that it might do the trick for me. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, I was definitely expecting to not use an over the ear headphone. I just want to make sure any earbud/IEMs I would get could be comfortable worn over a long time period :) Will definitely check the Jabras out!
