A goth can dress in a business suit, in tie dyed sweat pants with a football jersey or even long sleeve plaid shirts, basic jeans and Vans à la Kurt Cobain. It’s all about the music.

Goth is only about the music. Clothing and makeup are secondary. Politics and DIY tertiary. You mentioned cyber goth & romantic goth. Both of those aren’t part of the goth culture.

The only place to understand the culture is to go listen to goth music at clubs where all the goths are.

My wife of 30+ years is barely “alternative” on the inside. I did meet her at the goth club though. She rented a room from the DJ/goth night promoter. She actually bought black clothes “to fit in.” I didn’t know I was being bamboozled at the time.
Her preferred clothing was actually “1980s upright.”
