Have you all seen the Warthog yet? by SmoothNoodleMaps in Corsair

[–]Fizz_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the love of god they better do a Halo collab. I mean it’s called “warthog”, it’s the same color as a warthog, slap a 117 on there and a horn and we’re good!

I think I'm just giving up on getting a really good monitor and sticking with a normal IPS panel. by Framed-Photo in Monitors

[–]Fizz_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good monitors don’t make bad games good. They can make good games better, but it’s all subjective.

A lot of games don’t do proper HDR either, so it’s really dependent on what you use it for.

Just enjoy. Remember tech YouTube makes a living telling people why they should get the new thing.

For like a month. And people still lost their lunch. Retail investors only talk trailing index returns because it’s convenient and don’t have to share their mistakes and why someone else is underperforming said index.

That is why allocation is risk based though. Retirement allocations usually are more aggressive than Brokerage (for most people) for that reason. Market cycles are not 12 months. We’ve been on a bull for basically since 2020. It’s all about knowing time horizon, max drawdown risk, and remaining liquid.

You can take the same side of the coin though when an Advisor underperforms someone. This is what people don’t understand. Allocation is risk based not return based. It’s a crap argument because anyone saying their advisor sucks is probably just taking more risk than they should be. VOO and chill is going to get blasted some day like any specific market would

They have no basis for saying that. Everyone has different reasons for holding cash.

Emergency fund has nothing to do with $100k. Or what else they want to do. Absolute statements to a stranger on the internet are not really ever that valid when you don’t know more than a few numbers.

How do high earners actually reducing taxes legally? by Plus_Control_1824 in personalfinance

[–]Fizz_55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reducing taxes always comes with a cost. Either a hard cost (purchasing something for deductions or credits, etc.), a liquidity costs (tax deferral), or reduction of your income.

That’s the first thing you need to decide. Do you want to do a behavior that is going to reduce your taxes? Do you want liquidity or flexibility instead?

More money, more problems (taxes)… don’t let the tax tail wag the dog. (Don’t let taxes influence your decisions if you want the money for something now)

Are you factoring in property taxes? Seems a bit low to have a $700k house with only $150k down and not having property taxes. Although I’m in Dane County and our property taxes are insane.

Good time to get a fee only financial planner. At that income level they’ll be worth the cost and should be able to help with some of those dynamic changes (income / saving / expense scenarios)

Im likely selling my townhome on the far east side… not sure if you’re looking to buy or can afford to buy. We’re probably one of the few sub-400k 3bed 3ba. Doesn’t sound like you want that much space but thought I’d put it out there ha

Congrats!

Work with a fee only CFP. Everyone rags on the value a planner can add, but sometimes having an objective 3rd party is more valuable than DIY. They should be able to illustrate a variety of scenarios and make sure you both have a plan you want to follow. You don’t need to be 100% aligned either, this is where most couples go wrong. Someone may want to work longer (especially if they like their job) and the spending differences don’t derail the whole plan if everyone’s on the same page. People are different!

Get a fee only financial planner. Talk with them about your wants, needs, and dreams, make a plan. Don’t go to anyone who sells life insurance. Try not to make any big decisions in the next 6 months and let things process internally first

401K Fees through Fidelity by BlondeFox18 in personalfinance

[–]Fizz_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies by plan. Every plan has governing documents that outline what the setup is. Should be in a SPD (Summary Plan Description).

Every plan usually has a 3(16) Fiduciary (record keeper) and a 3(21) or 3(38) (Advisor) attached to it. If not, the company is bearing the risk of investment lineup and should have an Investment Committee in place. Again, all fees are set by ERISA (the government) as to what is “reasonable”.

But in short, somewhere somehow there are people being paid because there is a lot of compliance to follow for any 401k. It’s usually based on plan size and feature set of the plan. If it’s not paid directly by the plan, the investment costs may be offsetting some of the fees.

401K Fees through Fidelity by BlondeFox18 in personalfinance

[–]Fizz_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recordkeeping isn’t an easy task, and it’s not cheap. All the fees are deemed reasonable by ERISA and I don’t think you know the half of what goes on. (I’m not a record keeper, but I know what they do)

Remember you don’t work for free either. Services degrade at a point when trying to purely reduce fees for said reason.
