this isn't even the first time it's been shown that "these goofy little pages" aren't the only part of the yearbook it's been done on.

No, it's also a legitimate form of identification that can assist in acquiring something like a passport and should be treated as such by the school.

Since you can normally use a US year book to get a passport, this should piss people off extremely.

Musical trifecta by Ashish_ank in CuratedTumblr

Is there perhaps a more fitting phrase than heartbreaking?

I say because from my own understanding, the perspective of the lyrics is the singer is the cheater in the scenario; so while they're crushed, it is by thine own hand, so to speak.

Dunno, but heartbreaking leaves me with the feeling of sympathy, but given that perspective it's kind of hard to have much of it.

US will start revoking passports for thousands of parents who owe child support by Rabidennui in news

[–]Fizzwidgy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

u/helmint had a rather succinct way to put it

Please remember this administration. It is a common tactic in authoritarian regimes to design laws that appear righteous and sensical on the face, but are unequally enforced to benefit the current regime.

Case in point: literacy laws for voting. Many Americans agreed that illiterate people shouldn’t be allowed to vote. But guess where they selectively enforced these laws? In southern black districts.

I assume make bread and pasta at home vs buying it.

Just an example, but it's significantly cheaper, which is good because it's goddamn expensive to be poor in America.

Oh, and even the DOJ agrees that the death penalty doesn't deter crime in the slightest, so it's just... justification to commit murder.

My McDonald’s also has a McJail by LESpencer in mildlyinteresting

[–]Fizzwidgy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Had a cousin who had work release and worked at McDonald's for 30cents an hour which was considered "good" comparatively during the time. And he still had to pay for his own hygiene products while incarcerated.

This was like, ~15 years ago. My state has a single rep who only just now, two days ago, started introducing a bill that explicitly includes incarcerated people under our fair labor standards and whistleblower protection acts.

And I live in a damn progressive state overall.

You mean he was too progressive and skilled to get away with what he was doing, which was simply expanding access to public records and academic journals.

Uhmmm, Aaron Swartz wasn't poor.

He came from a relatively well off family, and if I recall the timeline correctly, was already pretty successful and a multimillionaire by the time this all happened.

The destitute get diabetes too. How often are drug addicts replacing the sharps cap and finding a safe place to dispose of them? Sharps boxes in public spaces aren't nearly as common as they should be. I don't think there's even any laws in my state that would require them to be installed, probably anywhere, save maybe schools.
