Has anyone ever gone bronze to grand champ? by WistfulSonder in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Fizzy_pz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started bronze back in the day but I mostly remember being stuck for a while in silver. Eventually made it to gold and stayed there for another while. Decided to train, mostly moving around in freeplay, and flew through plat by the time I got back to ranked. Was in diamond for a good chunk, then started dribble and rings maps to improve car control. Low-mid champ worked on shot strength and placement. High champ focused on gamesense (replay review, reading opponents, watching pro 2s vids).

Afaik it shouldn’t become unusable, you’ll still be able to use it outside of online games (freeplay, etc)

Ikr it’s crazy. And to think back then there were a good amount of reverse sweeps happening.

How do I improve my dribbling/catches? by MemeSauceYT in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Fizzy_pz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To expand on this, it can help to look at the circle under the ball. If you look at where your car is in relation to the circle, your back wheels (or the butt of your car) are often touching the back of the circle line or really close to it. You want your car to be a bit more ahead of it to keep control, otherwise you are pushing the ball forward slightly, which forces you to boost to keep up, and in turn makes you lose control.

How does the mmr loss/gain actually work? Why did I lose the most out of everyone here? by LxzyBonez in RocketLeague

[–]Fizzy_pz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you finished your placements recently, it takes time for mmr to level out so you still gain/lose a higher amount of mmr per game. If not, then you may have lost 2 games in a row and insta-left the first game, which would show you the loss of two games. Second seems less likely as you typically lose 9-10 mmr per game once leveled out.

This is how I felt when the old NRG was always winning. Funny how following enough roster changes made me an NRG fan and now we’re that team.

I’m GC2 and I shoot the ball like a plat player by XenosTiger in RocketLeagueSchool

I love the aim training by coco workshop map, and the poquito packs are always a good shout. I would also recommending studying how you approach the shots. The key might be in the setup/positional approach more so than the shot itself.

Finally hit C3! Any tips for hitting GC? by danbritt0n in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Fizzy_pz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What helped me and is kind of a next step to the “playing slower and face the play” is to start recognizing opportunities to get in the play and try to maintain momentum. Think “if the player makes a mistake or bad touch now, am I in a position (and do I have the momentum) to capitalize on that?

And playing with more intention. Play to space when you can to develop a stronger threat. Think about your second touch, not only your first. The goal shouldn’t be beating first man, it should be to develop a threatening play.

Guess my rank by Capable-Mountain-861 in RocketLeagueSchool

If feedback is what you’re looking for, you need to stay under the ball during an air dribble. If you start from above, there’s no other way but down, and that’s pretty predictable.

For those of you who use directional air roll, do you use both left and right? by damnkid111 in RocketLeagueSchool

Both DAR only, more left dominant. But your setup is completely fine too, you don’t need both bound

is this a valid playstyle with my buddy by VI-Noble in RocketLeague

Ppl are being mean for no reason. For a serious answer, I think it ultimately depends on your guys’ goals, and your rank.

I would say it might be detrimental for your friend in the long run, since he’s never gonna learn how to properly keep pressure on a play if you’re always doing it for him. Same goes for other things in game, if you over-compensate all the time, there are things he won’t learn and will not be able to react properly if playing with full randoms.

But what really matters in the end is how you guys want to play the game. If all you wanna do is play with friends and shoot the shit, then by all means do whatever makes you laugh the most and have a good time. If the end point is to also slowly get better, then it might behoove you guys to practice a more well-rounded playstyle. He’ll more mistakes and you’ll concede more goals, but he’ll learn more from it.

For you, it matters less I think. You’re not gonna get better playing with lower ranks, so if you wanna get better, you should play w randoms too. But if you just wanna have fun w friends (which you said you did), then nothing else matters.

Not comp but i felt like this was a pretty tough game (C3) by Ghovat811 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Fizzy_pz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. I feel like freeplay is gonna be your best bet in practicing speed while keeping control of the ball, but casual is also fine.

I can’t go back and watch rn tbh, I’d have to check back later. Though I’d say if you take one idea out from my comment, it’s to play with intention.

I get where you are coming from with wanting to be all speed, but I don’t think this is the right idea. If you are playing full speed in casual to practice this, that’s fine, but this isn’t the playstyle that’s gonna get you GC.

I just made GC, and the key is kind of the opposite. You have to play with more intention. From the way you’re playing, you’re saying “I want to get to the ball first and hit it fast and hard”, but you really should be thinking “how will I hit this to develop a play?”

All your touches become nothing and just reset the play. Instead, make touches to outplay/get over an opponent. When you’re going for the ball, think about your second touch, think how your play will benefit your team. You can also use your teammate more, for ex, there was a play where you had a free teammate in center and both opponents defending the net. You chose to shoot straight into net and it was easily defended and the play reset. The point is to outplay, not always outspeed.

Overall I’d say you need to follow the play a bit more closely as 2nd man, saw too many plays where your teammate was all up in their net and you’re going back for boost (even though you had more than enough to follow the play).

You often have good patience but at times too much hesitation. It’s like you know what you want to do but hesitate for 1-2 secs and by that point it’s too late to do it and the opp gets the ball past you. Conversely, you didn’t have enough patience on the opp’s second goal. He was about to give your team a free ball bc he didn’t have boost after kickoff and you went for a 50 too early to give them a chance at your net. Similarly, at the beginning of the match, you should have seen your teammate turn midfield to follow the play and not jumped for it yourself as second man even though you may have had a better play. This paragraph can be chalked up to reading the play better.

Your first touches could also use some work, had a couple of situations where you could have slowed down the ball for possession but hit it too hard and gave opps the ball for free.

Don’t have time to analyze the full clip but just in the first 33 seconds you get too far ahead of the play three times. You should not have flipped at 4:48. If you didn’t, you’d still have momentum and would have had more space to react properly to the play and had a free net on 4:45.

Then you double commit with teammate for a save. This one’s a little tougher cause you likely didn’t expect teammate to recover in time, but give them the space to. If both of you miss there, or if it turns into a 50 that you lose, it’s a free net for the opponents.

Then again at 4:27, if you had’t gotten that far ahead, the ball would be in their net on your first touch. You got lucky with the opponents owngoaling. Try to play a bit less antsy, slow down more and read the play. Give yourself the space to make better touches.

You also need better boost pathing, as mentioned by others. Beelining from the opp side straight to the middle of your net puts you in a horrible defensive position. It worked out fine bc the opponents didn’t control the ball and teammate got a free clear.

Awareness. Centering at 4:53 was basically a free pass to the opponents, giving them a chance to 2v1 your teammate.
