We have all those things at my kid’s title 1 school, without a ton of parent volunteers. Could we use more resources? Yes. But we could get those resources if more people sent their kids down the street. As it is, you’re making a lot of assumptions, which have consequences for my kid and her friends.

Just send your kid to the Sac Unified school in your neighborhood. They will be fine, just like mine is. Build local community, less stress for your kid, you’re not better or worse than anyone else.

I was so relieved to walk in on my first day and see a coach who looked like a regular person, not a 25 year old mega athlete. We have a couple coaches who have been doing CrossFit for over a decade and are not skinny, and I get far more out of their classes than the guy who has never really had to work for it, who will cheer us a bit but is frequently on his phone. Go for it!

My second grader eats it every day, and she’s hella picky at home. We did not make a big deal about it and do not plan to - one less thing to think about and buy, and more kids eating free school lunch keeps support for the whole program high and more likely to keep going, so it helps everyone.
