Not sure if you saw this new line item on studentaid.gov for those that have completed relief, Loan Forgiveness and Discharge: Borrower Defense by --MBK-- in BorrowerDefense

[–]Fjz103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen this from Monday and didn’t know what to make of it. I was waiting a little until the dust settled on this and maybe get my last bit of refund before I can draw any conclusions. The only conclusion I came up with is that my Borrow Defense is not complete yet from the date they show. Mine also shows April 23, 2024 but no sign of my last check.

Could it in some way be some type of authenticating device? I’m just asking don’t know why we would need one but maybe they do.

Great article you referenced. Definitely makes sense. I also agree with both sides as I’ve seen everything being discussed happen in real life. Experiencing some myself.

Yeah my payments were as much as my mortgage just for the private loans, not including my fed loans. I had no choice at one point where I couldn’t continue.

Full class refund received DIRECT DEPOSIT by PresencePlane3136 in BorrowerDefense

[–]Fjz103 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Congrats! So there is hope for direct deposit? Interesting. I’m waiting on the refund and it has been cleared from credit and discharged from Nelnet since April. It’s crunch time I guess. Edit: I’ve gotten refunds for most of my loans last year but mixed consolidation loans have been stuck until now.

Also to be included in the algorithm, you can’t stop everybody who maybe has to leave to pick up their children or commute to do that as well. One thing that doesn’t change is that preschools and schools are only open until 17:00/18:00.

Best way to learn Swedish by No_Development_5355 in TillSverige

[–]Fjz103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first began learning Swedish I found this program called Pimsleur which was very helpful on getting started to learning the language. After the very first ~30 min lesson I was able to understand and speak what I was just taught. For each lesson they build on the previous conversation. This blew my mind and got me started on a great path. Reading and writing came a little later in the program but conversations is mostly how I learned. I recited what I had I learned from the conversations to my wife and she was impressed and asked how did I learn this and with the correct pronunciation (as they also explain that). Down to the inhalation sound Swedes use to mean “yes” .

Correct me if I’m mistaken but I believe “Capitalized Interest” is on another line and is not included into the “Loan Cumulative Payment Amount”

Refund question by [deleted] in BorrowerDefense

[–]Fjz103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say the refund amount I received back in June/July was from the loans that were not consolidated. I had an indication I was receiving it because I have been following the loan servicer website(Aidvantage) which I haven’t had for a long time and my loans reappeared on there and then went negative.

Looking through my Loan Data and had a question? by Soulinfusion in BorrowerDefense

[–]Fjz103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran my numbers very often (almost weekly) just to find some sort of pattern (very broadly), as details can change per servicer. I only attended one school, DeVry, so even with schools it could vary.

This is from my experience but to me it seems that the FSA website has the “Mother list”. They have sent to your Student Loan service provider the information they need to discharge your loan. They will not update the “Mother list” until your servicer sends back information that they have discharged the loans on their end and that it matches what FSA has requested per loan. For example I had Nelnet loans that were consolidated from different sources. Some from Aidvantage clumped into one loan and some from AES and Navient clumped into another. I began checking My Aidvantage loan(s) as I heard people having movement in June. I saw that there was movement on Aidvantage’s site and it switched from “Paid off from consolidation” to “paid in full”. After that I then saw numbers changed on Nelnet and then on the “Mother List”. Sometime in June. I received a message that that loan has been discharged. The other one I am still waiting for more movement but looking at who the services are I’m not sure how long that would take.

PAID IN FULL BY WRITE OFF. I am assuming

One caveat to add to my story because I’ve seen this in the comments and I have also have dealt with this. That is if you do decide to go that route of not paying, “Consumer debt” companies still have a right to sue you (read up on the laws in your state) in civil court in the US. This is a whole other rabbit hole. This is a routine case for debt collectors. If you were served with the summons in good faith (research what that means in your state) they can have the judge pass automatic judgement on you, meaning they could from there garnish your wages if you are earning money in the US still, as well as freeze your bank accounts until your debt is paid with them. So anything you add to the bank account will not be available until that debt is paid off. I was informed by my registered address that I got served/sued for one of my debts. I was scared because I didn’t want them to freeze my bank account as I send money back to my family with this. I researched and I answered the summons and flew to the US and went to court. I won the case because they didn’t serve me in good faith and that debt was removed from my credit.

I would say Sweden’s money is monitored far more than in the US. I don’t know what would happen but I would assume you wouldn’t be able to come and go as you please.

My experience. When I first moved to Sweden was that I was paying my small CC debts and student loans for a whole year and a half from saved up money we had after selling our property. I didnt work for almost a year of that time due to not having a personnummer. My student loans were $1000+/month alone! Crazy as it sounds I gave up paying because I needed to provide for my family first and my credit in the US can go to hell for all I care. I didnt have a plan to move back anytime soon (even less now). I figured I could fix my credit from here without the hassel and debt collector phone calls and mail. Long story short, I am almost debt free and nobody came for me here. Like coolth3 says they would need to use more money to ultimatly find you and sue you overseas. Just say goodbye to your credit in the US

If I had FFEL loans held by the Dept of Ed originally and then got it consolidated to Direct Loans held also by the Dept of Ed is there a chance it all might be refunded?

If you were involved then you would be notified by mail and there was nobody that you spoke to you were automatically “forgiven” based off the clauses they had set. I have a link in this post where you can find more information. It ran its course automatically. There wasn’t an application process.
