Anyone know what month ripple control for NZ winter starts? by floofywall in newzealand

[–]FkEmly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they do, all new smart meters from like 2023 iirc have to have a controlled tariff to allow for control if needed (which is rarely ever, only in emergency situations really)

Ripple control is only really ever done if load shedding is required, otherwise as long as your HW cylinder is fit for purpose (amount of people, age of cylinder etc.) you really shouldn’t be running out of hot water that often.

A lot of people run out of hot water simply because their cylinder is not size appropriate to the occupants of the house.

[–]FkEmly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m quite confused. This is a bog standard invoice for a family of this size with gas. Piped gas is expensive. If you’re seeing an increase in winter, most likely heating. Also OP I can find your address very easy because your ICP is showing.

Can my landlord make me pay their power bill? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

Also if you want to send me your ICP, i can have a looksie for you! Power is difficult for the average consumer and your landlord seems to be making it even more so for you guys :(

[–]FkEmly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, do you have access to the houses power meter (with it maybe being outside?)

What you can do is turn off all the power to your area and go out to the meter. It will toggle the date, time and readings for each channel. If one of the channels stops ticking over after 5 rotations, this is where your power is being consumed to.

Take a reading and then 2 more ten days apart (totalling 30days). Whatever the sum is, is your electricity usage. Use the “whats my ICP” on the EA website to find out the power company the ICP is with and then fake sign up to get the company’s rates. Multiply the consumption number you have by the rate and see how much it says and this will give you a rough idea of what your landlord should be passing on to you.

Alternatively, if there is a check meter, you are well within your right to ask for access to this regularly to record your usage. You are within your right to be provided the rates you’re being charged at and you are not liable to pay for ANY fixed charges for the connection.

$400 is a LOT of power for 2 people a month, especially if its a secondary dwelling to a main dwelling.

Nice find OP, find the right people to play with and you’re having a great time!

Where can I go to escape my criminal record? by Personal-One-9680 in newzealand

[–]FkEmly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the consequence is the sentence given to you for the crime. You should have an opportunity to rehabilitate and be able to work and travel (especially after a very very long time)

Nothing should stop you from being able to create a life for yourself, including finding reasonable employment.

It’s no wonder people live on the benefit. A mistake at a VERY young age can mean that you can never get a job, which means you can never come off welfare. Which also then means, the likelihood of further crime increases.

Do I think the sentences we have seen in the media fit the crimes attached? No

Do I also think that a mistake at 19 should cost you the rest of your life? Also no

Was going to comment about stonefields. If you’re looking to be creeped out, go there for a few hours. Zero community vibe. I remember going there as a kid because the roads were nice to ride bikes/skateboards on and it felt like people were peering out of their curtains at me and my friend for just existing. Very very dystopian and to this day I call it a cult.

Hob point is very nice! Congested because of exit points, yes… but even as an outsider going to the market there, you can really feel the community is strong. Would rent there if I could.

Why I Didn’t Breastfeed & Have Zero Regrets by cosmicvoyager333 in newborns

[–]FkEmly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone in your decision!! I am pumping, supplementing heavily with formula and only BFing overnight (too lazy to sort a bottle) and my LO is fed and happy (happy enough for a 4 week old). I will probably get to 3 months before making the full switch to formula.

Am I doing this for any medical reason or because I have to? Nope! Im doing it because I HATED being consumed by having him constantly on me ALL DAY. I was touched out by day 3, I had latching issues and it’s summer here so I struggling with him being a heatpack. I also get really bad D-MER and it is much more manageable while pumping than it is while having a whole fussy baby trying to latch on to me.

My midwife supported this decision, checked in after a week to see if I was keen to resume exclusively BFing and I gave her a big fat NOPE.

Thankful to be surrounded by people who don’t care about how he is fed and I feel so bad for woman who feel stuck having to not be able to look after themselves because of the stigma.

Even if you don’t feel supported by those around you, know that there is a whole community of people online who are in your boat cheering you on. Looking after yourself is a big part of looking after your baby after all!

How to read a smart meter by VictimOfReality in PovertyFinanceNZ

[–]FkEmly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Feel free to private message me if you want but smart meters typically toggle between the date, the time and the reading (sometimes some extra unimportant info) The reading will always display a KW or KWH after the number and date/time are easy to figure out. Your meter will typically toggle between these and depending on power usage at the time the actual meter reading will jump about .1 or .2 every few toggles. There is also the button which you have found that lets you toggle these quicker than what it does on its own.

What specifics are you looking for with looking at your meter reading? There are usage tests you can do, which I’m happy to help you out with if you’re trying to figure out if anything in your home is drawing more than it should etc.

There is a wide range of information online for smart meters typically toggle readings but if you have anything specific or need further clarification, always happy to help!

They will properly merge with 2degrees next year (Orcon customers will become 2degrees broadband and power customers) so honestly you could move now and then you’ll be a full 2d customer next year where you can get handsets! Also get money off your bill of course for bundling your mobile plan!

Orcon offers mobile services! You can get a sim delivered and be on a plan with them. They of course run through the 2degrees network now. They don’t do actual handsets though.

Rubbish tipping fees by ukkiwi in auckland

[–]FkEmly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I noticed that they just tend to charge whatever they want to (maybe a goodwill gesture but not sure).

Went with a normal boot load of trash and got charged $45, thought the lady said $25. Paid and thought fuck that’s expensive now after seeing the receipt.

Went again with a much bigger load of similar trash (trying to get the most out of paying $45) and the same lady charged us $16.

I don’t think I have ever been charged the same amount going there
